I been reading alot of posts and mostly what I see is one side bashing another and vice versa. I'm not talking about people asking about valid points which could go either way and by questioning things which might not see quite right to them. I'm talking about the people who insult the other side.

I do thank the people who answer my question and give references showing the basis for their thoughts. I myself try to be polite with my answers myself giving the reason for what I believe.

Is it so hard to admit that it could be right either way without taking offence to it that you could be wrong.

Religious, Agnostic, or Atheist. Any of the three could be right way to be, but none of them are the wrong way to be. Until there is the absolute truth about one is far better than the others, no one has the right to say so.

Believe in your beliefs but, just have acceptance and have an open mind towards the the others without the insults.

I'm not saying there aren't people who are open minded on here. They just aren't the Majority.

I guess you could say when it comes to my beliefs, I am just about the most closed minded person alive. I have too much faith in and love for my Lord Jesus Christ, I can not stand by and let someone bash Him the way some people do on here.
I believe in His word and try to live by them. I'm not saying I get on here and try to shove my religion on someone else. They have the same freedom of choice as I to choose what they do or do not believe in. Unfortunately there are some on here that bash you and your belief if you don't believe the same way they do.
I will tell you that my connection is so close to Christ , all I do is thank Him for something (without even asking) and I receive.
He has pulled me thu some really tough medical problems, led the Dr's skilled hands around thru my heart for a quad bypass surgery.
I praise Him to the highest everyday for giving me a second chance at life.

I Try to have an open mind - i was raised christian, then was an Atheist, and now am a Pagan. I have friends in all areas. I only get uptight when people get very closed minded and say that other belief systems shouldn't be allowed or actively insult. I enjoy debate where you can discuss differences without insults but that doesn't seem to happen here.

Of course the anonymity of the Internet allows people to hurl cyber insults with no retribution - so that gives a lot of people the green light to be obnoxious just for the heck of it.

While there are many people on here who come to this forum to show their stupidity, I really enjoy the ones who participate and truly want to discuss things. I know it's hard sometimes, but I try to ignore the poor lost souls who have nothing better to do with their lives than look for someone to bash or insult. I don't mind someone giving me their ideas and beliefs, and then listening to my ideas and beliefs in an intelligent and adult way. I am a christian, and I want everyone to know it ! All we can do is overlook the rude people and enjoy the ones who really want to participate, whether they have the same beliefs or not, as long as we can both be adult about it. God bless you all !!!!!

Unfortunately, most people live in a world of absolutes. They believe in some absolute truth. As a Christian, I believe the doctrines of Christianity that are revealed in the Bible are true. I believe the statements or beliefs that contradict Biblical truths to be false. I cannot believe these contradictory things to be true. I can't say "none of them are wrong", and I'll wager that many of my opponents would believe I'm equally wrong and confused. I will be civil, but I cannot go against my conscience nor my Christ who says "No man comes to the Father but by Me."(John 14). I will never say or believe they are just as right as historical Biblical Christianity.

I agree that it is not very productive for people to insult each other... Personally, I can appreciate an intelligent, not-too-obvious Ad Hominem directed at me, for instance... :)

... but most Ad Homs tend to be simple-minded, or vulgar, and too obvious...

An aside:

In general, it is good to have an open mind...

However, our mind should not be so open that all Truth falls out :)

And that is the problem with the "Tyranny of Tolerance" in Western culture today... Same with "Political Correctness". Both concepts have become so much the ruling Group-Think in large segments of Western culture that all possibility of Truth falls out (of the alleged minds that choose to wallow in Political Correctness)...

No offense meant... :)

Cordially,
John

Religion and politics are two subjects that are virtually guaranteed to cause an argument.

Trying to write from a Neutral POV, on either topic, is very difficult.

Answering questions from one's biased POV --- which usually dismisses all validity to the claims of the other side --- is very easy.

One other factor: Most religions do not permit their adherents to either question, or doubt the validity of their path.

Actually there is only one of those three categories (Religious, Agnostic, or Atheist) where the adherent can say with logical consistency that any of them could be right, and that would be the Agnostic.

You do have a point, although there are others on here who are open-minded, and not just you. Sometimes I will go on here and defend others who are bashed becase its seems that the poster needs to be awakened!
