I don't know what other religions are against the practice, but I can tell you why Catholicism was against it for a long while.
During the 'christianization' of barbarian Europe, many of the pagan cultures used cremation in their funeral rituals. The church forbade the use of cremation to set itself apart, and to avoid the continuation of pagan burial rituals. This 'rule' was never a Dogma of the Church, only a prescribed practice.
Since the idea of cremation no longer holds the same pagan connotations as it once did, the Catholic church now considers cremation as an allowed option. What the Catholic church does not permit is the saving of the ashes (like on your mantle) or the spreading of the ashes (like over some area). Cremated ashes must still be buried or interned in a mausoleum.
The reason for this is that our bodies were made in God's image, and, for every baptised person, are the temples of the Holy Spirit. The Church views anything but burial or internment as disrepectful to the dignity that these characteristics deserve.

The Catholic Church prefers the pious custom of burying the bodies of the dead, but permits cremation as long as it had not been chosen for reasons contrary to Church teaching.
Cremated remains are to be treated with the same respect given to the remains of a human body, and should be buried or entombed. The scattering of cremated remains on the sea or on the ground, or keeping them in the home, is not the reverent final disposition that the Church requires.
With love in Christ.

Well, the Bible teaches that we will have new glorious bodies (1 Corinth. 15). Many people speculate (unfortunately) that those bodies that are burned will have no part in the resurrection of the dead. Plus, cremation is an old pagan ritual that pagan religions use to take care of their dead.

I think Mormons are against cremation....I know we had a problem when my dad passed away he told my mom he always wanted to be cremated..and were not Mormons...far from it...but his family was......after his death we had so many arguments with his family...during a time of heart ache these people were fighting with us....it just wasn't right...all the years he was sick and we took care of him....they were never around...till he passed and then they felt that they had all the rights to tell us what to do....so yeah....I'm pretty sure Mormons are against it.

Catholicism is no longer against cremation. Old news and out of date. I do not know what if any religion is against it.

muslims are against it. We bury our dead without a coffin, just in two plain white cloths wrapped around, and then put into the dirt...the whole point is--we came from the earth, and we gotta go back to it. And we believe the dead can feel everything thats going on around them, so if you cremate them, they will feel pain in burning...but once they are buried, they begin the process of going into the next world...their judgement sort of begins in the grave....
