i can't stand coffee. can't see how people drink it. i WILL NOT force myself to acquire a taste for it either just because most the people i know think it's fashionable to carry coffee around. they really do too. it's sad but true. it's like an accessory. especially if it says "starbucks" on the paper sleeve. or what ever that is they put around the cup to keep it from burning their hands. even celebrates are "coffee carriers". it's a trend. (won't be so trendy when their teeth start looking like they've been chewing on trees though)

Just like wine, there are different types and qualities of coffees. there some that are more bitter and the roasting makes a big difference. Many places "burn" the coffee and some people like it that way.
Before you give up on the whole coffee thing, go to a store like trader Joes or Bristol farms and buy a couple of bags of some of their more mild blends (usually described on packaging) and brew according to basic directions. Most "coffeee shops" have coffe that's been sitting a while or is brewed very strong. And espresso is a given.
You also may want to try cafe au lait or cafe con leche. It is similar to a late (mostly milk) but coffee instead of espresso. It is a good way to get used to the taste. and eventually you will be addicted like the rest of us......
Drink up!

I grew up on the stuff. As a kid, I wanted to act grown up and that included drinking coffee. My parents gave me the kiddie coffee (non-caffeinated) which got me sort of used to the taste. When I got older, I tried the real stuff which tasted much better and there you have it. Have been a coffee lover ever since.
Oh.. and Starbucks isn't coffee.. it's low quality burnt beans .. gag !
BTW, I feel that way about celery. Tried it and just can't keep it in my mouth lol.

1st time. when I was 11.
Maybe because I was trying to be macho.
But I gotta say I really love the bitter flavor.
I don't know how conditioned I am to feel that way.
I never drank coffee with milk.
Not even the worst garbage like that freeze-dried ilk.
Espresso <3-- Greek Coffee is so black, it's chunky.
But maybe the taste isn't natural-- though I love raw cocao and sun-ripened olives now.
Coffee is so mind-altering, I'm way better off not loving it.

The real secret is not filling it with milk, cream, sugar, honey, or any of that. Get a good cup of coffee, and sip. If you tongue hasn't grown into bitterness yet (that happens as we hit our mid-twenties so you aren't far off), you'll find that by the end of the cup it doesn't bother you anyway. Instead, focus on how it affects other parts of your tongue. Play with the coffee like it's wine.

I didn't like coffee when I first tasted it but after the 2nd or 3rd cup...I was hooked.
I guess it's an acquired taste. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. I can't stand the taste of beer.
P.S. - You're a cutie pie! ;-)

For me it took a very long night of playing spades to finally convert me to coffee-probably drank a gallon that night. Now I'm hooked-the good stuff too none of that store-bought trash.
