Most (not all) people who believe God exists point to books, holy scripture, or other writings as proof of existence. Most (not all) people who believe God doesn't exist point to the same writings as works of fiction. If God is all, then he exists and doesn't exist at the same time. That is a paradox. Do, then, the writings of faith prove his existence, non existence, or both? Thoughts?

The proof for the existence, or non-existence of God, depends upon one's fundamental axioms.

If your axiom is "There is no such thing as a Miracle", then proving the non-existence of God is easy.

If your axiom is "There are such things as Miracles", then proving the existence of God is easy.

It all comes down to which axioms one has faith in.

"The books of the Word are all those which have the internal sense; but those books which have not the internal sense, are not the Word. The books of the Word, in the Old Testament, are the five Books of Moses, the Book of Joshua, the Book of Judges, the two Books of Samuel, the two Books of Kings, the Psalms of David, the Prophets Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, Malachi: and in the New Testament, the four Evangelists, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John; and the Apocalypse. The rest have not the internal sense" (Arcana Coelestia n. 10325 or Heavenly Doctrine n. 266).

FAQ: Why different testaments and books in the Word?

"As regards the Word particularly, it has existed in every age, though not the Word we possess at the present day. Another Word existed in the Most Ancient Church before the Flood, and yet another Word in the Ancient Church after the Flood. Then came the Word written through Moses and the Prophets in the Jewish Church, and finally the Word written through the Evangelists in the new Church. The reason why the Word has existed in every age is that by means of the Word there is a communication between heaven and earth, and also that the Word deals with goodness and truth, by which a person is enabled to live in eternal happiness. In the internal sense therefore the Lord alone is the subject, for all goodness and truth are derived from Him" (Arcana Coelestia n. 2895).

The writings of faith is to be a mystery to the human mind. This is where the Holy Spirit comes into play. Through the Holy Spirit we can see the mysteries surrounding God. Without faith you can not believe. Another paradox to ponder.

Personally, I point to the universe as proof of God's existence. The books are His writings to us. Even if there were no books, there's more than enough compelling proof that God exists.

I'm an atheist and I do not rely upon the contradictions in scriptures as proof of a god's or goddess's non-existence. It is simply the lack of scientific evidence that makes me an atheist. I also know that those who do believe in a creator do not solely rely upon scriptures as their proof either. Therefore, no paradox.

The evidence is in the Word of God. - The Bible. The Bible is the inspired Word of God. If you embrace it for yourself, then you will have the evidence.

Oh taste and see that the Lord is good.

It takes one step of faith to find the evidence.

John 3 v 16

For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.

When it finally comes down to it. It's time is what will prove His existence. And when the time gets here, those without faith, will wish they had it.

Evidence and faith don't do hand in hand just like the spiritual and physical in the sense to prove something that you don't believe anyway. I know where I stand and can rest in that because of my own experience. You have to experience it yourself to believe, not just on someone elses word right?
