I am planning on stripping my hair color at home with the L'Oreal haircolor remover kit. Has anyone had any negative experiences?

Yes, I did. I had my hair blonde. Wanted red. Went red. Decided to go back to blonde. Used Loreal Colour Remover. It literally melted my hair. My hair was a spongy, destroyed mess. I had to cut it into a short bob and keep cutting for over a year to get rid of all the ruined hair.

I was later told that removing red, especially over blonde was a very tough thing to do and I was destined for failure.

I used it with sucess Some time before the red disaster when I wanted to go from brown to blonde. It worked well. I have to add:

BE CAREFUL!! Follow the directions exactly and do the strand and time tests outlined in the directions. It will tell you to keep the solution off your roots for the first part of the process, follow those directions or you will end up with very light roots and patchy lighter and darker length. It will look funky and bad.

Better yet, if you can afford it, see a professional.

I've never used the haircolor removal kit but I have had a lot of experience with hair processing. I recently bleached my hair a couple times and it got "spongy" also (someone else mentioned this). What I did for my hair to go back to a normal, natural color was use Clairol Natural Instincts, it's a demi-permanent dye, so you dont get any root growth and it'll cover any color you want to cover. I hope this helps!

Be very careful, you could fry your hair so bad it could just break off. I wouldnt do this at home, I would have a pro do it , it would be totally worth it so that you dont loose hair.
