"My God, I'm so miserable and tired I hardly want to answer this question, but OMG, I'm starting to feel a bit hyper and happy as I type this. My thoughts are racing and I have so much energy. I think I'm gonna go out and sleep with every guy I know and then gamble till I drop!! Wooo hooo!! Sweeeeeeeeet!!!!....ah no, the feeling has passed... I'm gonna just stay in bed all day, every day, ponder how crappy life is, and never go out again. "
I think that's bipolar.

Bipolar disorder is a mental illness. Basically it means because of a chemical imbalance, some moments you will be really hyper and joyful, almost crazy, and others you will be morbidly depressed. these high and low phases occur throughout your life. Bipolar disorder is hard to diagnose properly and is usually mistaken for depression, because people usually get medical help during their low points. they buy things they don't need, may overspend, be irratible, struggle to sleep, have outbursts, etc. it's a long list which isn't important. Basically, bipolar people are emotional and moody.

Bipolar is another word for Manic depressive. People who suffer from this disorder have really high, highs were they think they can do anything and feel on top of the world. Then come the really Low lows, were they are very depressed often suicidal. I can be treated with medications. And it is a depression caused by a chemical imbalance.

Emotional highs and lows are part of life for everyone. But for someone with bipolar disorder, these ups and downs can be so extreme they can interfere with daily life. Sometimes they can even be dangerous.
One day a person with bipolar disorder may feel so depressed that they can't get out of bed. Work may seem impossible.
On another day that person may feel great, full of endless energy and creativity. But other people might think that their actions are reckless and out of control.

Bipolar disorder (previously known as manic depression) is a diagnostic category describing a class of mood disorders in which the person experiences states or episodes of depression and/or mania, hypomania, and/or mixed states. Left untreated, it is a severely disabling psychiatric condition. The difference between bipolar disorder and unipolar disorder (also called major depression) — for the purpose of this introduction — is that bipolar disorder involves "energized" or "activated" mood states in addition to depressed mood states. The duration and intensity of mood states varies widely among people with the illness. Fluctuating from one mood state to another is called "cycling" or having mood swings. Mood swings cause impairment not only in one's mood, but also in one's energy level, sleep pattern, activity level, social rhythms and thinking abilities. Many people become fully disabled — for significant periods of time — and during this time have great difficulty functioning.

My ex-husband had Bipolar disorder. He was nice one minute and mean the next. He would change moods really fast all the time, I could not live with him like that! Also, he was suicidal. If you have bipolar, you should be put on meds immmediately!

To be happy at one moment, and sad or mad at another. You switch emotions quickly. There are no real treatments for it, and is rarely ever detected in people. Many people that are bipolar commit suicide and the people closest to them never even realized there was anything wrong.
