I am sincerely sorry for your loss. It sounds like you did try to help, to take comfort in that. Sometimes there is nothing anyone can do to prevent a loved one from taking their life. But, I can tell from your question you were them for that person, and that person knows you were. I have been at a low point in my life and had to find a reason to live by myself, I wish I would have had someone like you that cared, took the time to try to help.

Death is a fact of life, but when someone ends their prematurely, it hurts everyone around. You have to go through the grieving process. Seek professional help, maybe a good counselor, or a pastor you can trust in a local church. Jesus is called the wonderful counselor, so if nothing else then at least seek him. This is pretty sad dude, be there are people out there to help you and get you through this. No, you can't change the past or what someone else did, but you can learn from it and look for the warning signs to try and prevent from ever having to go through it again, and even share your experience and wisdom with others to help them. Peace, and God be with you!

Don't beat yourself up. Even with professional help people still commit suicide. You and your family are in my prayers. I am a professional nurse and had a fellow coworker and friend commit suicide and I too couldn't do anything. I hope this helps. Remember at least they are not hurting anymore.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. I'm so very sorry for your loss.
My ex-husband (father of my child) took his own life a couple years ago, so I truly understand what you're going through.
The thing with suicide that people need to understand is that the person who took their own life was in a great deal of emotional pain and suffering. They were very depressed and saw no way out. They don't realize that suicide is a permanent solution to temporary problems in their life.
Don't blame yourself. It is NOT your fault, or ANYONE'S fault. It is depression's fault. Depression is an evil disease that can suck a person in and it doesn't allow a person to think clearly.
Please try to be good to yourself. And check out these websites to connect with others who know and understand what you're going through. You are not alone.

It helps to speak to a grief counselor. My 17 year old cousin committed suicide a few years back and I know what you are going through. Good luck.

I am very sorry for your loss. There are some things that happen in life that we can't help. Please do know your loved one is happier now and not suffering. Eventually, you will learn to work with your grief and move on. There are many books about grief, I would suggest reading some. Talk it out with friends and family. You need support.

I have been there too I understand how you feel. I hope you feel better soon surround yourself with positive energy and the ones you love most or better yet help someone else. It will help ease the pain if you keep yourself active. It isn't your fault!

Sorry for your loss. Some people are going to say horrible things. Try not to let it bother you. Here is a support group I used during my time with this issue.

Don't blame yourself. Doing all you could was all you could do.
Forgive yourself and forgive the person who commited suicide.
I could never understand why someone would do such a thing until I got sick enough to contemplate it. I can understand why now.

Please don't blame yourself. And I am sorry for your lose.
I feel that people who commit suicide are not in their right mind,
and aren't able to think rationally. Just think they are not suffering anymore. We are just here in life for the ride, and not everything makes sense. Maybe one day it will, and try to remember the good times.
I will keep you in my prayers !!
