my view
their is a difference between a need and a want. A need implies something you can not live without such as air. A want is something that we would like such as a car.
G-d dose not need humanity it wants humanity. The reason G-d wants humanity is because he has a desire to bestow good. This desire comes from G-d's nature of being good. He created humanity so he has someone to give that good to. and also gave us the ability to reject his gift by giving us free will so that it is a true gift and not something forced upon us.
by the way good question

That's a good example of circular reasoning.
1. God is perfect
2. God deliberately created the universe so that his creation may glorify him.
BUT!!!
3. Perfection entails the lack of flaws or impurities, not needs or wants
Now how about this to chew on.
1. Man is created in God's image (emotions, intellect, will)
2. If God has no needs or wants, then Man does not have any needs or wants.
The bottom line is that God is perfect AND he has created the universe. Perfection does not mean that He does not have wants or needs. In fact, God is a very jealous God. God's being perfect only means that he is incapable of doing wrong, making mistakes, contradicting himself, or sinning (which would be disobeying himself).

God does have wants. He want's us to love each other and follow the right path chosen for us. We all follow different paths but they will lead to the same place if we do not falter. You are talking as if He wanted to create this Earth for his own wants. He created it for US not himself!
He wants us to choose for ourselves, that is why we are here. Some people will say without faith God is dead so that would mean he NEEDS us. He had to create this Erth so we could go through the proccess of eventually becoming like him and becoming Gods ourselves. As anyone who has read the Bible will tell you, in the original war inheaven 1/3 of the souls followed Satan. These were never allowed to come to Earth. So everyone here (YOURSELF included) chose to follow his plan.
Satan can tempt some here to come to his side. Some scholars have estimated that to date there have been somewhere around 80 Billion people born on the Earth. That would mean There are at least 40 Billion in Hell. Plus the few he has corrupted to join his side. Satan is the one with the needs. He is the Brother of Jesus so he is a God in his own rights.

Being a creator does not entail an effort to satisfy a need or want in this case. God is unconditional love, perfection. Which means, he expects no reward/return from his creations. It just is. If we all gave of ourselves without expecting anything in return......what a better place this would be.

A really good question!
Your initial statment is correct. God is perfect. Perfect means complete and absolute. God can make the impossible possible.
This brings up the age-old question, "Can God create something so heavy that he can't lift it?"
First, it is necessarry to realize that we are venturing into the territory of that which is impossible for us to conceive.
We live and think within the limits of a 3 dimensional world. It is practically impossible for us to conceive of 4 or 5 dimensions. If God is unlimited, then we could assume that God is limitlessly dimensional. How can we conceive that which is inconceivable?
According to Srimad Bhagavatam, the ancient conclusion to the Vedic scriptures, God is atma-ram (self-satisfied) and apta-kam (doesn't need to do anything).
God is the sum of everything (advaya gyan para tattva). He is in everything, is everything, and at the same time, outside of or separate from it (acintya bhedabhed tattva).
We have relationships. We have personality. We have form. We have desire. If God is unlimited, and we are within God's creation, then God must also have relationships, personality, form and desire. Otherwise, we would have something God doesn't have. Impossible!
When God desires, His desire is immediately manifest! Would that not also be a definition of perfection? God is not static. He is perfect and complete in himself, and he is also an eternally evolving priniciple.
We are finite! When we desire, we have no control over whether we will receive the fruit of that desire.
It is easy to make the error of comparing the perfection of God's desire to the imperfection of our desire.
"The transformation that is present in God, in the form of His desire, is nothing but the highest manifestation of love."(Jaiva Dharma)
Yes! God does desire! And God is perfect!
(In order to avoid rampant speculation, which is useless in the long run, I have quoted the Vedic scriptures as my authorized source of information. )

This is one question that I haunted me whole of my life and pain of not being able to satisfactorily realize why in the paradigm of infinite time and space and endless running of our soul and God's existence, God will create anything like this world. Bigger mystry is: Assume God's existence is infinite and eternal. In that either the world existed all the time or it was created at a point in time. If world always existed then no question of God creating and all that. However if we assume that it was created a point in time, I'm bothered by lot of Whys including:
a) Why only at that point in time in the infinite scale of time
b) Why only at a particular location of universe in the infinite scale of spae
c) Why only in a particular way and not other way...
And I guess no matter how much collective intelligence we have here in Yahoo, these can't be answered. But we could possibly do is to present out views and interpretations of how it might have happened. Here is mine:
a) God is surely not anything like or similar to human beings. For us its very difficult to imagine or visualize anything that is better than us and not similar to us. So lets not talk about what exactly God is. Believe it to be an ultimate power of existence that doesn't require eyes to see, nose to breat, ears to hear so on and so forth.
b) In principles of sprituality, there is very strong theory of Karma. Origin of world is not because God wants, rather it is some outcome of Karma (not sure where exactly it comes from) that has created the imperfection in form of world and its entities in it.

It is true that God is karunamaya, which means overflowing with mercy, however, He is also lilamaya, which means overflowing with desire to perform pastimes. Desiring various pastimes to be enacted in different situations, God made the souls eligible for all conditions, form the marginal state to the highest state of pure spiritual love. And to facilitate the souls progressing practically and steadfastly towards becoming qualified for Gods service, He also created the lower levels of material existence, beginning from the lowest inert matter up to false ego, which are the cause of unlimited obstruction in attaining supreme bliss. Having fallen from there constitutional position, the souls who are entangled in the material energy are indifferent to God and engrossed in personal sense gratification. However, God is the reservoir of mercy. The more the soul becomes fallen, the more God provides the soul with opportunities to attain the highest spiritual perfection. He brings this about by appearing before the soul along with his spiritual abode and His eternal associates. Those souls who take advantage of this merciful opportunity and sincerely endeavor to attain the higher position gradually reach the spiritual world and attain the state similar to that of God's eternal associates.

Got a whole universe to run...
BTW: heyman - sound logic as applied to religious convictions is swell, but we're no better than the christians on here trying to bait people with questions designed to get a rise....
Answers used to be cool, but these days it's just folks lookin for a fight...
Why bother? They'll never convince us, and we'll never convince them

Yes-- GOD is perfect. Yes, GOD created the Heavens and everything in it. NO--perfection does NOT mean that GOD doesn't have needs or wants. He does WANT us to love him and to turn from our sins. He does not, I believe have 'needs' as we know them. He created ALL things for US-- and, of course, he created US, to have fellowship with HIM-- NOT just to have someone to worship him, which would be selfish, because GOD is SELFLESS-- He concern is only for US-- which JESUS exemplifed during his life on Earth.
If God has 'wants', it is only to have fellowship with us, as I already stated. He has no needs, only LOVE. He only punishes us because he is a JUST GOD, i.e., because he 'needs' to in order to make us wiser and remind us who is in control.
CONCLUSION: Your your conclusions are NOT conclusions-- they are ASSUMPTIONS. AND, I might add, very misguided assumptions. GOD is PERFECT, GOD is GOOD, and he LOVES US. So, therefore he goes through a lot of 'bother' to watch over us (who are believers)
MY RECOMMENDATION: (And I don't mean this in a sarcastic or negative tone) Go to Church--Seek out Christians-- Ask questions about GOD. You might learn some answers (Just like C.S. Lewis did. Hallsie

Very deep perception, this is the simplest way to answer you without sitting with you and have a civilized discussion. Its like your wife buying a $50,000 dining room set that you have not used, all its been doing for all this time is catching dust. Do you need it, no. Do you want it, no. Interesting question, what are your thoughts?
