It is good to test the spirits and make sure it is God. My number one rule of thumb is that the human mind is at enmity with God. Sometimes God does not speak so quietly. Sometimes he speaks loudly. With our inner person we talk with God not our outer. With our spirit we talk with God. When we can get our minds from self and to God then we know. What I mean by that is the events of the day or some other memories running by us. Kind of like trying to have a conversation and watch a movie at the same time. Always remember God is interested in what you have to say, and He will answer you in word or deed. Sometimes you don't always get what you ask for but remember a Father always knows what is best for His child. When God tells us something we are apt to doubt it. Start thinking about the answer you get. Would you be able to put it in those exact words? Would you be able to generate the feeling of warmth that goes with the answer? If not pay attention. Someone greater than you is speaking. Do you get the sense that your question has been answered? These are the questions that need answered by you.

God is Love. God is truth. The Bible is the inspired word of God.God will give you no message that violates any of these things. God is eternal and unchangeable. Study and know His word. By this you will know His voice and it will be as recognizable as the voice of your best friend. A child doesn't have to be very old to recognize his fathers voice. Some mental illness seems to sufferers to be God speaking, as well as those who believe alcohol and drugs are agents through which God speaks. These voices are the deceiver, the devil. They will tell you things that will harm yourself or others. They will tell you to doubt things in the Bible, and things and people who your rational mind knows are of God. God loves honest seekers.

Any thing you "think" you are receiving from God, through your mind, must be tested with the known Word of God in The Bible. If what you have received dose not meet the test of being from or being compatable with instructin found in The Bible, then is is not from God. God will not tell you to do somthing that is in oposition to What He has already said and preserved for us.
IF, one receives audable communication from God, The one recieving will know unequivicably that it is God's Voice. If any Voice message is in oposition to The Written Word of God, Then that voice is not from God.
Voice communication from God is rare... but it happens..

I suppose it all depends on what you believe. If you believe in God/Jehovah etc then you may want to think that God is talking to you. Me....... it's just my subconscious mind or is it the voices? Hard to tell!!

Well, its not my subconcious when I get the answer I didn't want to hear, as is the case more often than I would wish. The more time you spend talking to God, and I don't mean JUST talking, there has to be some listening involved also, the more readily you'll know his voice.

What I hear is always consistent with His word. Also, as the bible tells me, any "word" from God above is always loving, kind, righteous, holy. Good question though...I do always want to make sure I am hearing God correctly and not just listening to my own "voice in my head!"

How do we know it is God? Our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. God does not use verbal words with us, He helps us to see what is going to happen. When we pray to God for food, He doesn't hand us the food from Heaven, he leads us to churches that have food pantries so we can get food. Do you think it is just a coincidence that this people chose to do this on their own, they asked God what his plans are for them and that is how they are serving God.

Its a process of discernment and God the Father speaks to our innermost being through the promptings of the Holy Spirit.

My mind certainly doesn't tell me what I WANT to hear. Blar on that.
To know you are talking with God? Always ask that guidance be given in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

because it is answers I sometimes don't want to hear like take for example I had to take my first wife to a local bowling alley for a radio contest with her boyfriend and I asked him "Why am I doing this lord she never gave me a ride to work the whole time we were married and the winters sometimes dipped into the 40 belows and now she don't have a car and I have to take her to a bowling alley he told me "DO NOT REPAY EVIL WITH EVIL BUT REPAY EVIL WITH GOOD' I didn't want to take them but I'm working for Jesus. I obey him and him alone.
