I agree with whoever said the yoga or pilates suggestion, and also definitely see your doctor. Also, I was wondering if your bad back is from a heavy school book bag? I've seen kids even younger than you with bags weighed down way too much for them. Education is important, of course, but the next generations should not have bad backs so soon.

See your doctor. You may have a condition (such as curvature of the spine, among others) that is causing problems.

Definitely don't do anything like yoga or pilates without professional advice saying you can. Your back is a bad bad thing to injure, it affects your whole life.

I do the yoga "cobra." you lie on the floor, on your tummy flat, with your palms under your chest. Very slowly you raise your upper body, keeping your hips on the floor. You go as high as you can to feel a stretch but no pain. No pain at all. You count to five slowly, and lower down very slowly. Very slowly, this is gentle.
Rest 5 seconds. Repeat 2 more times.
Morning and evening. Every day. It works!

My back went at 15. Popping my back generally helps it feel better and no, it will not destroy your cartilage. That's an old wives tale.

For my, doing push ups helps stretch as well as stretching my sides. I also do the back roll trick and that can help.

how long has your back been hurting. If it's been hurting for a long time you probably have bad posture or scoliosis. If the pain just started, you either have a back injury or there is a problem with one of your organs that are located towards your back.

I was 12 when I slipped a disk in my lower back I was wrestling with my brother and suffered for about a month before my parents believed me and took me for an x-ray.

well "cracking" your back can at times be the cause of some problems, if you are not evenly streaching muscles.

And there can be actual damage to y our back so unless you have seen a doctor and had xrays made you should not try any "home" cures.

Please don't crack your back on your own.. your body is still growing. There is no home remedy to backs and sometimes no proffessional remedies either. exercise is the best activity to strengthen those back muscles and shoulder musles other wise see your doctor for some Xrays.

i had that problem because i fell.. plus i have mild scholiosis.. better posture and making sure you lift things with your knees should help that out. i'd start to go to a physical therapist so they can work out the pre-existing knots.
