I have software that will not start on it's own, need advice.

We will need more information. What program? Are you talkinga bout the install program, or the program itself? Has it run the install program? What is happening when you try to run it? What OS do you have? How did you install it? How are you trying to install it? Etc etc....

You can never program a software to start on it's own, BUT you can ask Windows to start the program for you by putting some codes to put an entry for the program to the registry or to the startup folder.

And you can say that Windows (or any OS you're developing for) is the software that "starts your program that do not have starters built in". Just search Google for code template to create a startup entry to registry for your particular language.
