This is funny in a sad sort of way. I never considered Mr. Hovind a pillar of my community, but although his actions are wrong and do reflect poorly on him, it doesn't bother me the way you expect it might. My faith is in God, not in my fellow fall able humans. Just because someone is a Christian (or claims to be), does not mean that person is a perfect example of his or her proclaimed faith.
Religion and science do go together, and I am not a proponent of totally blind faith, in which people believe something even when presented evidence to the contrary. The interesting thing is that people on both sides of a debate tend to see the same evidence as being in support of their own position. Keep the discussion going, I say, because it is a healthy thing to question and examine ones' own beliefs. The question may have been worded inaccurately, but I thank you for asking it.

Who ever said he was the pillar of our scientific community? Why would we care about a smallfry like him when we have had such geniuses as:
Blaise Pascal
Issac Newton
Louis Pasteur
Galileo Galilei
Antoine Laurent Lavoisier
Johannes Kepler
Nicolaus Copernicus
James Clerk Maxwell
Erwin Schrodinger
Gregor Mendel
Carl Linnaeus
Alexander Fleming
And the list goes on and on...

There is nothing in this story to confirm your assertion that Hovind is a scientific fraud...
But like many who make a great deal of money off sharing God's Word, he forgot that Jesus told us "render unto Caesar what is Caesar's, and unto God what is God's."
As a minister, while I am allowed certain liberties by the Federal Government, failure to pay taxes is not one of them. And any minister who toys with these laws is playing a dangerous game... after all, the Bible also instructs us to avoid the appearance of evil.

I am not a fundie, but I agree 100% with Hovind on all of these issues. Having seen his old seminar series, I am truly, deeply convinced that he's a good guy with a common sense approach to things. As essentially a preacher, he cannot and should not be subject to paying income taxes.

I see and because someone claims to be religious yet really does not lead that life and commits a crime, it's all Christian's fault or a religions fault? Really stupid logic there buddy. What about the thousands of crimes big and small committed by non- Christians? Duh! Not too bright a point you tried to make there sonny. lol By the way neither I or anyone I know has ever heard of this guy lol. What pillar? try not to believe everything to read and make irrational and illogical statements and judgments. Makes you look rather uneducated, immature and foolish.

Sorry, never heard of him. Dr. Dino, heh...
Someone should have told the doc that Christians are supposed to obey the law of the land UNLESS those laws conflict with the law of God.
He should have "rendered unto Ceasar". I have no pity for him...one less idiot making my faith look bad.
EDIT:
Not one evolutionist stepped up to take the Doc's challenge?? Huh! LOL! Somebody's slipping...for that kind of cash, nobody showed him Darwin's short-beaked finches?
Oh, and Vash forgot Albert Einstien and Stephen Hawkings, and I'm sure there are many more.

That's what the New World Order would like you to believe. Dr.Hovind is a great evangelist who can prove evolution wrong. It would be funny to see you judges by God oin Judgement Day. Scoff why you can, but in the end, God wins.xP

Funny in a horrid sort of way, like finding a centipede in the bathtub.
And I wonder: Where did he get the idea that the law doesn't apply to him?
