Not so much overweight, as he gets older he will most likely burn it off.
He should get outside more with friends. Don't sit for hours watching TV or the Computer.
The more he sits around the more he will want to.

Don't rely on the Body Mass Index for choldren. He is only 12. He hasn't had his growth spurt which for boys is usually between 14 and 17.
At this point in time, I would say he is overweight, but his body may be just getting ready to grow. Children will gain weight just before they shoot up. Keep an eye on his eating habits;make sure he is eating the right things. He still needs to get out and exercise.

He is only slightly over weight but dont forget he stil has alot of growing to do!Before you realize it I think he will grow out of it very soon!If you are worried about him though try and get him to join a football team or just anything active such as riding a bike while he is at home! There is so much children can do you just have to point it out to them!Swimming is one of the best sports to do as it works all the muscles in the body!good luck!x

Your son isn't overweight... with the height and weight you mentioned, that makes his BMI - Body Mass Index - 23.6, which classes him as being "Normal". It would take him to gain another 8lbs (assuming he didn't suddenly grow another couple of inches), before his BMI would equal 25.0, classing him as overweight. This is all very technical and medical, the most important thing is that he gets as much fresh air and physical activity as possible. The fact that you are concerned leads me to believe that you don't think he's as active as he could be...

No he is not!
Your son is not the only one that plays PC all the time in fact it has been proven to increase your brain power. But I would suggest cutting it down to no more than an hour a day it is too time consuming and is not worth it (from my own experince).

Do him a favor and get him active! Keep only healthy food and snacks in the house. You are only hurting him if you don't do something NOW! Get out there and get active with him!

I copied above website. It has more information. I hope it works.
You might ask his doctor. I recall my children getting a little chubby about that age, just before a big growth spurt. Then they were thin again.
