So this week has been a scorcher here in north texas. Triple digit weather. I've been letting my son have company inside rather than play outside. His friend it seems doesn't bathe as often as he should. He comes over early in the morning and instead of looking clean and refreshed, already is a little sweatly looking. And when he leaves, the living room reaks of him. How can I come up with a solution for this. I don't want to hurt the kid's feelings. He is 9, my son is 8. I make sure my son showers everyday, and twice daily now with this terrible heat. This friend of his however, STINKS.

Yes, I've noticed his odor before, but barely. But yes, combined with the heat it is stronger.

well I would maybe ask them if they wanted a cold shower or a shower to refresh first, and remind him where the ZEST bar is so he willl use it. If they dont want to take a shower, take them to the pool and hand them a bar of soap afterwards and tell them to wash off the chlorine. And another idea would be to say "What is that smell?" when you walk in. Then ask your son when he last showered and ask why it smells so bad. And then the kid may begin to realize he is stinky

I would go to the parents (when the child in question cannot hear you) and just nicely tell her that you've noticed some odor now that the weather is hotter, and that you've been showering your son twice a day.
My son doesn't mind taking a bath or a shower, most kids like to.
But I think that you really should approach the parents first, because you don't want to hurt the kids' feelings, but you should say something.
If it were my kid who was stinky, this is how I'd like it to be handled.

at 9 boys get pretty stinky. Why not suggest as it is so hot that the boys go outside under a sprinkler or have a shower to help cool down. This will also give him a chance to wash. Problem is he will put the same clothes back on and they will smell so go with the sprinkler idea and tell him to bring a change of clothes

Maybe suggest to his parents that his hormones are kicking in and it might be time for some deoderant? I know a few nine year olds with the same problem and that's usually what it is, however don't discount the fact that boys are smelly. They sweat more than girls and at a certain age (different for everyone) it becomes too much. Of course you could send them outside for a water fight or to wash the car and get wet and accidentally spill some soap on him (LOL)

One day after he has been there for a while just call his mom and suggest he come home for a shower because of the heat and that your son is going to take on

At 9, he's on the verge of puberty. Pre-pubescent boys are stinky. It's the hormones. And it's the parents you should be talking to, not the kid. Why not set up a sprinkler outside?

Turn on the sprinkler and tell them to play outside. Give them a bar of soap to play with.
LOL! Just kidding.
Does he normally stink or has it just started since the hot weather? Maybe it's a combo of hot weather and pre-pubescent hormones?

i think of the breath element is way less gross...in simple terms grant them a breath mint and that they're going to get the hint. The pungent genitals may well be impossible to handle, and a very turn off!

Try taking them swimming at a local pool first then have them play at your place.
