I think that SETI should be producing some positive results in the next 20 to 30 years, as a whole lot more antennas come on-stream, along with more sensitive receivers and millions more listening channels.
Also, there will be new land-based and space telescopes coming on-stream in the nest 10 to 20 years which will be sensitive enough to directly observe planets orbiting distant stars... including the ability to spectrally analyze the atmospheres of those planets, and determine whether the atmospheric gas mix indicates life.
Personally, I think we are at the cusp of discovering that life is as common as dirt in the universe, and we are 'not alone', with respect to intelligent life.
I cannot imagine that such discoveries would 'prove' that there was a god. To the contrary, though, there will be a lot of clergymen putting on their "dancin' shoes', trying to weasel their way out of their claims that earth is god's "special creation', the center of the universe, and all that hogwash. It will probably be very much like their efforts to discredit science via 'Intelligent Design' nonsense. They'll probably be selling 'Intelligent Space Ventriloquism' or something... explaining how god put those signals out there to test our faith. LOL

i think life on mars would neither prove or diprove a god. the simple fact that we are here to me proves there is god.if an alien race came down in a ship and said follow our god ours is the true god i would say get in line.
