1.) "God is love." 1 John 4:8.
2.) "Love is not jealous." 1 Cor 13:4
3.) "I, the Lord thy God, am a jealous God." Exodus 20:5.
4.) The Christian god cannot logically exist.

-Basically love is NOT jealous, yet god is jealous, then God can`t be love. But if god IS love he cannot be jealous.

God's Love is different from emotional love.
His Love is unconditional and perfect.
His jealousy is also not like our jealousy.
He is not carnal. He does not envy to jealousy.
His jealousy is when we follow after strange gods, then He is angered by it.
It is not like human jealousy or anger...because with us, it leads to other things, like adultery and murder, etc.
God cannot do those things.

i can see that you have to read carefully or you may not understand things quite well. you have to be careful when you are reading. didn't u question the statement but just jump to accusations about those verses. if you read exodus 20, it shows that when the children of Isarel were comoing out of bondage, the word of God said that there should be no other gods before me and no graven image. when God says i am a jealous God, it means that he is the one and only creator and they should not serve two masters but God, because there is only one God. Did you remember the graven image they made the golden calf and how they were carrying on? They were doing all sorts of wrong things when Moses were on to the mount where God gave the commandments. YOU SEE MY FRIEND WHAT IS JUST BEING SAID HERE WE CANNOT SERVE EVIL AND SERVE GOOD. for instance, we can't be going to church and serving god and the next minute we are killing people and doing wrong things and say we are christians. we must try our best to always serve god and be good to others follow him and he is good, try to do the right things. God wants us to be pure and good, we all make mistakes but we must acknowledge our mistakes and continue praying and ask God for the strength not to continue in sin. GOD WANTS US TO BE GOOD ALL THE TIME, THAT'S ALL TO IT. NOT TO SERVE THE DEVIL AND THEN YOU PLAYING YOU LIKE GOD. DO GOOD ALWAYS.

One thing that you must do is read above and below the scriptures. When we as humans put idols first and Him second or further down the path, he has all right to be a jealous God. But in our sense of the word as the ones having been put here, jealousy isn't love

Why does it say things like God is a jealous God? I don't think it is because God is on an ego trip, I think that God knows that if we worship anything more than we do Him, we loose the meaning for which we were created for. This has been true in my life atleast.

Dude, jealous refers to the 2nd commandment. If you worship an idol, then God will get jealous. Sure God is a loving God, but he also have punishments and get pretty angry sometimes when ppl deny his existence like you. On Judgement Day, remind me not to stand next to you.

The problem is in the translation: too often we use the word "jealous" when we should use "envious". "Jealous" means not wanting to lose something. "Envious" means wanting things somebody else has. God is jealous of us because he knows that when we go far from him, we hurt ourselves, but God is not envious because he holds the whole universe in his hand. So, there should be a differentiation between "jealousy" and "envy" here: God is love, God is jealous, but love is not envious.

Check out the first commandment. ...I am the Lord thy God, you shall have no other gods before me. Examples of other gods would be any activity or person that you love or spend more time with than God, anything that consumes you to the point that you forget to converse with Him daily.

God don't want us to worship anything besides him, Loving money more than loving to serve him is an example. He hate when we reject him for something else or for pleasure. Jesus life was all about serving, it is a good example of how we shall serve God.

In the modern day that means that God dislikes when people worship other "gods" or idols. It isn't jealous in the modern sense.
