I'm trying to learn Italian too... I'm planning to hike to the top of Mount Etna in early 2008 so I'd like to be able to converse with the locals when I'm over there. I got a great pack from Waterstone's called 'Teach Yourself Beginner's Italian' for about £20. It contains a 240 page book and two one-hour CDs. I'm not sure where you're from (this is Yahoo Answers UK & Ireland so I assume you're from the UK or Ireland!!!), but over the past week the Daily Mail or Irish Daily Mail has come with a free 'Learn Italian' Linguaphone CD. There are nine altogether, I've got them all so far but haven't got a chance to listen to them yet. Maybe your newsagent has some back copies left over? In particular try Eason or WH Smith.

I have an Italian relative in Ireland who will give lessons at the discounted rate of 80 euros an hour. The rate has increased ten times in the last three weeks. I should try Welsh, only £2 an hour

mama mia spaghetti = baby you look hot!

lol, hey...get a book called "Italian Through Pictures"...it's old but you can probably get it on Ebay. It's like a comic book and by the time you are done, you can at least read basic italian and say some stuff.

Ciao
