Dear Sho Nuff
With a name like this, it's hard to believe you are sincere. Just in case you are I will indulge.......
Yes, the truth about God starts in your heart......you must 1st believe Christ is who he said he is.......you must believe that Christ is Lord and he died on the cross for our sins.
(start reading the book of Matthew) it will give you an clear understanding who Jesus is.
Once you understand who Jesus is you will fall in LOVE with him and than you will accept him. But 1st you must understand who he is.
Now, you must understand, God knows all and sees all. You have to have an sincere seek for knowledge in understanding the truth.
I really pray that you are sincere in your seek for him.
God Bless You

Truth is a concept that is not based on your feelings. Love, anger, happiness are based on how you are feeling and your feelings can be a liar. My feeilngs sometimes depend on how I slept, the drive in the car or what I had for dinner last night. Truth is outside of you. 2+2= 4, I don't care how you feel about it, its right. You have to study the Bible for its truth. Did Jesus walk on the plant? Did Jesus teach people? Did Jesus die and rise from the dead? A useful way to judge whether or not these are true is to find out how we trust any book of ancient writings. How do you that Homer wrote the Illiad? What about Shakespeare? Then take the Bible and put it up against the same tests that you would put these books up against. This will give you a starting point for truth. The search for God can begin in your heart, but it does not usually stay there.

It's not that God is IN your heart, it's that there is some psychological thing within you that causes you to blind yourself to Him. You need to figure out why you have such a blockage and remove it so that you can search for God with an open mind.
As it is, your mind is obviously closed to any possibility of God being real. Until you become open minded you will never be able to recognize God in your midst.
It's like a story I heard once. Some scientists were studying birds. They studied the birds for years and years, trying to discover which *male* birds were the leaders of the flock. For over 20 years they studied and for over 20 years they found nothing. Then they realized what the problem was. They had been so busy looking for a *male* leader, because of their pre conceptions, that they missed the very obvious *female* leader right under their noses!

Yes. The truth is in your heart... So if your heart tells you something, like to stay away from a religion you feel nothing for, then go with your heart. Do what you do believe in, Do what does make you happy, Do what makes you a better person. And you can do that without a forced belief in the bible.

Are you really listening to heart. God isn't the only speaking, the Devil is also trying to win you over. So I guess I might haven given you the wrong advice before. Reading the Bible doesn't automaticly make you believe in God, it takes time and alot of thought. And you are always faced with temtation and sin, and that makes it extrememly hard to know when God is speaking to you or when there is someone else.

Faith is more important that belief. Belief needs proof. Faith is believing without proof.
What do you feel in your heart? If, in your heart, you have faith in God and try to be a good person (try not to hurt anyone, help others, and make amends for your mistakes), that's all you need to do.
Don't let anyone tell you that you're going to hell because you don't believe exactly the way they do, go to church regularly, tithe, etc. None of that is what faith is about. Have you ever heard the phrase, "Who died and made you King?" Well, apply this same thought to those who tell you you're wrong ... who died and made them God?

God through the person of the Holy Spirit puts truth in the believers heart. Its not already there, and we cant put it there on our own. What is truth? Its who God really is in identity, character, nature, and His word ( The Bible ) is revealed by the Holy Spirit as truth. All of us, before we come to repentance in Jesus Christ are without truth in mind and heart. Before a believer is born-again, we are born and live in a state of not knowing who God is( Identity ), or if he even exists.

Firstly, where does this assertion that "truth about 'God' is in my heart' come from?
And certainly being religious won't get you anywhere - that's not faith, and it is by belief in Jesus as God's Son and His death that people are saved.
It is only if God plants His truth in your heart (and I pray that He will do) that this can work. And this faith thing is still hard, I struggle with it often, but I know God gets me through it, He's a faithful God and I wouldn't swap it for the World.
God bless.

Whew..you seem to be trying to find God, but have been gotten a bit off-track. How about this: Decide that, no matter what, you will keep asking Him to reveal Himself to you, and you will follow Him...very, very honestly. When you do this, I guarantee you that you will find God...He has promised it. And don't be surprised if what He wants for you is to be the best you that you can be, not change into somebody else. P.S. Your heart isn't the most reliable source of info. Try your whole soul and mind.

You should always follow what is in your heart.
You will notice that now that you do not have this shield of Goad around you that you will be responsible for your own feelings and actions. That is good.
Now you will notice that your actions and feelings have never been bad or evil, too. You have never been bad or evil, therefore, you can understand that your rejection of religion as a crutch to give you an excuse to act is not bad, either.
It is you who is completely responsible for yourself and you are a good person. Congratulations. Now, go and make your world a better place.
Best of luck to you!

You are seeking and that is awesome!
But it is not even the Bible, not tithing, or rituals, those things have their place - it is Jesus. The person of Christ as the One who paid our price and loves us. To follow him ,and know him.
That is the difference - he is the One who opens eternal life and abunant life. Seek him only, seek to know him - He who began a good work in you is fauthful to complete it.
