Typical bullsh.. get a lawyer.
The person above me is so far wrong i cant believe she said that and still breathes
It may still be your responsibilty in the end. But in most areas when leaving a dog outside it must be chained. You did this. its not a big deal to have it attached to a tow Chain as long as their is ample room for the dog to move around.
..man things have definetly changed. I was bit by a neibor dog when i was 10. Bit my cheek. My mother said that i shouldnt have gone up to the dog when it was eating.. she was right.
Get a Lawyer.. There may be something in it that Since the boy is a minor and Trespassing on private property. and the Boys mother has responsibility for that boys actions.. you may have some legal resouce there

Wow, sorry to hear that man. Well first thing I would do is talk to an attorney to see if this is possible. She can try to sue you, but I don't think it will hold because you had so many precautions to keep the dog in the yard and the kid was technically trespassing if he didn't ask your permission. I would try to talk to her when she seems to be less agitated, unless she didn't like you to begin with then you could have a prob. To be honest with you this probably won't stick because you also offered to pay for the doctor bills, plus you got rid of a family friend. Like I said an attorney counsutation would not hurt anything (but your wallet), I wish you luck in this matter.

I'm not really clear as to how the boy was bitten if the dog was chained in your yard. If you got rid of the dog and offered to pay the hospital bills and took reasonable care to keep people safe from your dog, she is not going to get your house. She thinks the money train has arrived and she is in for a big surprise.

Unless the dog was chained in the front yard or in an accessible area, the child was trespassing. Get a lawyer NOW! You should not liable for tresspassing. BUt I am not sure how it works if you don't have Private Property and No Tresspassing signs posted.

It sounds like she would have no case to sue. You put up the signs, you had the dog restrained in your yard. You offered to pay the doctors bills and you got rid of the dog! The child was trespassing anyways, and should not have been in your yard in the first place, dog or no dog.
Fight it. You will win.

YOU should never have a dog on a tow chain in your yard. Let me guess, was it a large Pit Bull? No dog deserves that kind of abuse. Why in the hell have an animal attached to a tow chain???I couldn't even pull that around with me. NO wonder he went after the kid. He either wanted attention or was bored to death. How can you call the dog "a dear family friend" and left him chained like that? You don't even refer to the poor animal as "he" or "she". You refer to it as dog. I don't see much respect there.
Bottom line here is you are responsible for your dog at all times. It doesn't matter where, when or what, it is your RESPONSIBILITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Personally I hope the mother gets everything you have for your abuse to that dog. I hope you never get an animal again. If you do, think twice about how you are going to take care of him/her. Just don't get one.
With padlocks on both ends of the yard, how did the kid get inside? My friend had her dog in a pen. I didn't approve of that either. Kids were coming up to the pen and aggravating the dog and a kid got bitten. My friend paid a $75.00 fine. The poor dog had to be quaranteened for 10 days. They told her if it happened again, the dog goes to sleep and she gets jail time and another fine.
She takes the dog to the shelter. AGAIN, it is the poor animal that gets the abuse. This dog didn't get attention, the kids were teasing him and he bit. He sits in a cage for 10 days with no human contact and not understanding why his life is not worth living and then his human takes him to a shelter. NOW, I ASK YOU, WHAT IN THE HELL DID THAT DOG OR YOUR DOG DO TO DESERVE THAT KIND OF TREATMENT? NOTHING, NOT ONE DAMN THING. EXCEPT HAVE CRAPPY HUMANS..........I HOPE THE WOMAN GETS YOUR HOUSE AND EVERYTHING IN IT...................................

MANY bites are a result of a lack of parental supervision. It doesn't always matter that he came into your yard.
Had he been teasing or provoking the dog then or before? If so get witnesses to show the bite was not unprovoked.
ANYTIME you have beware of dog signs up you are declaring your dog dangerous. NEVER put them up unless you have to by law, better to put up "dog on premises" signs. Those signs could be a big problem for you.
You need to get a lawyer who is experienced with this.

If it was clearly posted and had a chain, how could it be your fault, make sure that you take pictures to court with you. There is a chance that you may lose if you don't have a good lawyer. The same thing happened to me, but I won the case because the mother of the child was not watching her child and she was charged with neglect.

while it is understandable that your dog needs to be chained if not fenced outside, i wouldnt personally have left my dog out there long enough for this to happen. obviously this child taunted your dog while he was on the chain, and your dog couldnt do anything about except get upset. the kid should never have entered onto your property, his mother should have been taking better care of him by SUPERVISING him!! the laws on this vary from state to state, i would consult a lawyer-- this incident is not entirely your fault. the childs mother is at least partially to blame!

that happened in your yard and you had signs also then you are not at fault neither your dog .cause any faithful dog will bite if somebody tries to tresspass the property .your dog was doing his duty .infact the boy is at fault.you can go to court and ask the clerk which form to fill in and the fee is very nominal you don't need a lawyer you can fight for yourself.always fight the unjustice.
