He has plenty of toys and bones to chew on. Yet, he chews on shoes, bike seats, wall molding. He has another dog to play w/ and a yard to play in. I also take him to the dogpark to play w/ other dogs. I dont get it. He didnt chew on this stuff when he was a puppy. Any Rottie owners out there?

He has been trained, very well in fact, cost plenty. He does get attention, kids and I do that. However, he is my dog, but my husband is deployed. Do dogs act out like kids? My other dogs my husbands and he's not acting out. Just some more info....

Your dog is bored and needs to be excersised like a good long walk. When he chew things he is not suppose to you ned to be a firm leader and give him a MEANINGFUL correction. If the correction does not have meaning to him he will just go back to bad habits. above all he needs plenty of excersise

Chewing is a sign of rebellion. He is looking for attention and getting it, but not getting the kind he wants. Just like a little kid. He needs FIRM discipline. Make sure he knows who the Alpa is. (That should be YOU). When he chews on the bad things, correct him and give him what is allowed to chew on. Train, train, train! Repetition is key! Use a training collar (otherwide known as a pinch collar) and a leash and "pop" him when he goes for the wrong thing. These collars are the best tool we as owners/breeders have, as long as they are used correctly.
After getting popped a few times, he will get the hint.
(I own 6 Rotties) GOOD LUCK!

He does it because he was never trained not to. A dog is only as good as it's training. He has toys, great. When he picks up one of his toys (a treat filled kong is great) praise him, tell him how good, how smart he is. Really lay it on. When he picks up the wrong thing you tell him no, make him give it up and give him the right thing to chew and when he takes it tell him he's good.

First, make sure he is getting enough attention from you. Then make sure he is getting enough exercise. If neither of those is the problem, then you need to give a MEANINGFUL correction.
