Why do some guys think it is cool or funny to fart around others?

As a guy I am extremely careful to do the business of breaking wind away from others.Human gas has an odor that isn't something I think people should intentionally share with others.It is nasty.It also is one of the top ten most disgusting sounds right after the sound of someone vomiting but is higher on that list then the sound of a burp.

Yet many guys, and even a few girls, think it is funny and cool and make it a point to break wind around others.Why do they do it?Are they just nasty?Did they never learn manners?Or do the just not have any class?

good question. i think little guys think gross stuff is funny. some guys never grow out of there immaturity. same goes for girls so don't send me some infuriated email...lol

Flatulence is an art form when properly done. From the classic "Pull my finger" to the more recent "Did somebody step on a duck?" There is a time and place for everything of course, hence the saying, "That went over like a fart in church". There is a segment of society, so uptight and priggish that the humor of a well timed air biscuit is completely missed. Not only is it missed, the appreciation for the quality of the fart is lacking. The duration of a belt loosening cheek flapper; the haunting melody of a two-toned sphincter whistle; the eye-burning tear causing SBD; the beauty of a Blue Angel on a dark night. Fart humor has been around since pre-historic times, one has only to watch the classic much maligned Ringo Starr movie, Caveman to realize this. Do not feel that farts are nasty, low class or lacking in manners. They are a natural means of venting that precedes written history. Stand proudly, or lean for a one-cheek-sneak and let 'er rip!

y? i believe it's because they are in the society at accept this behavior( e.g. friend). animals tend to adjust to surrounding for survival.

some people have do something that at first they feel uncomfortable to do, but when they see that people around them are doing it, in order to be accept in that group they have to follow unwritten law of survival.

I think there is a time and place for comedic farting. If you are in a buisiness dinner or press conference, no. If you are at a fancy resteraunt, no. If you are just with your friends, or your ten-year old siblings, or anyone else that isn't offended then why not? Humor is in the nose of the beholder.

For the record, people can fart and still have class.

I have no idea. My Dad's ex wife's father used to fart on his other son-in-law. Yes, fart ON him. They would fart on each other! My Dad was at a hardware store one time with him and he saw him standing next to his son-in-law that he would fart on. He rubbed his a$$ all over the other guy and let out this HUGE fart. Only to his horror that the guy he farted wasn't his son-in-law like he thought! It was some random dude he didn't even know! I didn't see this, it was before I was born, but the way my Dad tells that story, that is the funniest thing I have ever heard. I don't think farts are funny, but that situation HAD to be. Some people are just gross I guess.

Thats a good question. Maybe it is in part how they were raised. Some people were raised that it is a natural body function and that it's ok to do that no matter where you are. My husband used to be like that, he always made it know when he was going to fart and it didn't bother him to fart in public. He doesn't care what other people think. That is because his mother raised him like that. It has taken me alot to teacha growen adult manner but now he doesn't do that and is respectful of other people in public. I agree that people should have more manners and be more respectful. Its not funny it is rather disgusting to be in public and have to hear or smell that. That is why they make bathrooms or go outside by yourself. Thank you for having manners and thank your parents for instilling them into you.

Sometimes people with manners and socially acceptable class, just like to have a low brow laugh. In this case the more you voice your concern and discomfort, the people who make a point of doing so will continue to go out of their way for you. Its harmless, childish and infantile and at the same time a display of how comfortable and self confident these people are with themselves. ***

I've got two friends, both nearing 50 years old, who think it's incredibly funny to fart in public - these two guys will sit in a bar and actually have contests to see who can fart or belch the loudest. It must be some kind of 'macho' thing - either that, or these guys have just never grown up. -RKO-

I don't like doing that in front of others and I had a really embarrassing moment in the library.
I was super gassy and couldn't stop farting and had to try to silent them all but oh no they were really stinky.

I think breaking wind is hilarious especially when you can get a deep tuba or a high trumpet sound. It's natural you can't stop it so get over it and remove yourself from the situation if you don't like it.

this is in simple terms incorrect to fart in front of girls human beings (or belch) regardless of if this is fantastically a snicker among fellow male farters (belchers). To a lot is a soreness nevertheless. and girls while you're "between the lads" and fellas snicker at your backside burps it continues to be incorrect for females human beings to do loud farts/belches and at the back of the laughter is quiet disapproval.
