The symptoms are very similar to the symptoms in adults.
Obsessions—unwanted, recurrent thoughts, impulses, or images that are experienced as intrusive and inappropriate
The obsessions of OCD are not just worries about real-life problems.
The person realizes that the obsessive thoughts are from his or her own mind.
The person attempts to suppress or neutralize the obsessions with actions or other thoughts.
Examples of typical obsessions include thoughts of being contaminated by dirt or germs or thoughts of having hurt someone, even though recognizing that such concerns are not realistic.
Compulsions—repetitive behaviors or "rituals" that the person feels driven to perform in a particular way
The compulsive actions are done to reduce distress or to prevent something bad from happening, even though there is no realistic connection with preventing such an occurrence.
Typical compulsions include excessive cleaning (such as hand washing), repetitive checking, and hoarding of useless items.
Mental acts such as praying, counting, or repeating words silently can be compulsions for some persons.
With kids, I would also look for extreme perfectionism, a need to please others, and a lot of difficulty making decisions.

My OCD started when I was around 7-8 years old.
I started with biting the inside of my mouth. Then went to hair pulling and eyelash pulling. It escalated to the checking and rechecking. When extremely stressed I was hands over and over until they bleed.
OCD also make for repetative thoughts or memories (man ! I wish I could harness it! The money I could make ) I can accurately remember what stupid conversation I had with a checkout clerk YEARS ago..down to every detail..time of day, clothes, conversation..etc. And when conversations of past pop in my head I have a hard time "getting them out of my head" they play and replay. This can often disturb sleep as when the "tape" is running you cant fall asleep. So sleep disturbances can be a symptom also.
I pray that if someone youc are about has OCD you help them get help! I am 39 and was just diagnosed with OCD 10 years ago. I think of all the time wasted. I am still trying to gain control of it and do pretty well.
Best wishes!

I don't know what it is for a kid, but for an adult, she will obsess over what matters to her (her skin? weight? cleanliness? worry over people?) It varies. Some people will scrub themselves a few times daily in the shower, pick at their pimples terribly, work out constantly and worry too much about how she looks, worry too much about what others think, short attention span, making sure her room isn't dirty....Making sure of this, making sure of that...
