In the few weeks i've been a part of this forum, I often see people quoting The Gospel of Judas and the Holy Qur'an in an effort to discredit the Bible. While I will admit that there are a number of people who have misinterpreted the Bible and used that misinterpretation to bring havoc to the people they don't like... I can't understand why more effort isn't put into discrediting the people or groups who are causing the offense instead of attacking the Bible and its teachings. Is there any chance that people attack the Bible because they feel threatened by it and its message???

I welcome all answers and intelligent dialogue... however I would appreciate actual responses and not just people telling me how stupid I am... I have younger siblings who can do that for me. Thanks.

I really like a lot of the comments so far... choosing a best answer is going to be tough... I do appreciate that so many people are answering with intelligent discussion instead of just rantings.

Believing the Bible to be a work of fiction or because it depicts events that contradict the natural world are interesting objections: But are there scores of people trying to discredit Harry Potter & The Goblet of Fire?

For a lot of people, accepting that the Bible might actually be true and be the INSPIRED word from God (yes, I know it was written by man, but the words came from GOD), would mean that the way they live their lives is, well, wrong and probably going to send them to hell to burn and be poked at by demons. For a lot of people, they would rather close their eyes to their fate then accept the Bible and Jesus.

The Bible has some problematic verses, such as those found in abundance in the book of Joshua, which depict God as instructing the Israelites to commit genocide against the natives of the land of Canaan. At least those parts which advocate such things should be contested, in the spirit of truth.

I as a Hindu do not agree with much of the Bible's teachings. On the whole, I find it to be a nice book, if interpreted in a nice way. However, I totally disagree with the portions of the Bible that say that only Jews have the truth and they alone worship the true God, or only Christians have the truth and that they alone are saved. I do not hold to an exclusive doctrine, and while it is other peoples' right to do so, the exclusivist doctrine has caused a lot of trouble all over the world for people of other religions. I really hate that. I think it SHOULD be contested, because missionizing is causing loss of culture, loss of lives, and loss of spirituality.

I think it's because people see how it's been used as a separation device -- we see how it's used to support theocratic elements, the Federal Marriage Amendment, discrimination against sexual orientation, etc. Also, people read it and see that lots of it have a message of separation of hate -- an obvious change of the message Jesus tried to get across. It's all about a god that both rewards and punishes, loves and condemns, believes in sin, guilt, and hell. These are ego projections and it's NOT what a loving creator would ever espouse. Therefore, the ironic thing is that by rejecting the message in the bible, the false god is being rejected so that the underlying loving one can be found (of course, if we hate and demonize those who believe in the bible, we're just participating in the same dynamic and therefore won't find god).

The world discredits the bible because they cannot believe that a being greater than they has the awesomeness and the power to be in control of everything. Also misintereprete the bible. Especially now when the Lord is returning for His people you will see alot of this, the times we are living in, wars, means that He is at the door and if we are not ready we won't be raptured.

There should be no effort to discredit the bible. It is not credible on its face and if a believer does not realize that, then no amount of effort expended is going to persuade them. I understand why some people may make an effort to discredit it. Either they subscribe to a different belief system, in which case they may feel threatened, or they understand that nothing has divided man over the course of history more than religion and seek to motivate people to seek truth outside of religion.

Because some of us see great discrepancies within the Bible that prevent an honest person from believing in what it claims.

The message is flawed and contradicting, and that is reason enough to discredit it. Some people cannot abide by the teachings of the Bible for their own moral reasons, ironically. I haven't read the Bible, but I've read pieces from it and I understand it as being guidelines for moralistic behavior, and yet what I've read and what I know of its teachings conflict with my own interpretation of right and wrong.

I can't believe in something that in my honest opinion isn't right.

I think that some people do feel frighten and threaten by different religons. But what some people forget is that the Bible has been written by many different hands, through years (I mean YEARS) The old testiment might say something that is contraditicted by something in the new testiment. But the old testiment was written before Jesus died on the cross for us. Religions are hard topics because people always want to be right, so they're willing to put everyone else down.

Threatened? I think so.
It is also insecurity that causes a lot of criticism.
So called scientists are always devising experiments to prove or disprove their theories.
When you cannot have a physical reason to prove something it is irrelevant and hens forth not real.
But there is a lot of the scientific community out there that has proven many incidents in the Bible, such as the flood.
Earth layer samples have been documented and aged to the time period.
The message is faith.
Scientists need tangible evidence to prove their theories.
Well except the big bang one and that is a wild guess at best.
Humans are not perfect. Just forgiven

the bible is a book written by man. actually the bible is sixty-six books bound into one volume. These books are written by many people at different times, and no one knows the time or the identity of any author. Some of the books were written by several authors at various times. These books contain all sorts of contradictory concepts of life and morals and the origin of things. Between the first and the last nearly a thousand years intervened, a longer time than has passed since the discovery of America by Columbus.

It's because the bible is fallible yet christians refuse to accept this fact.

This is the definition of infallible: Incapable of erring: an infallible guide; an infallible source of information.

Yet it is common knowledge that within various languages there are words that have no english translation. and you will hear that what one reads in the bible today is the "best translation". now 'best' is far far from correct. Anyone with an understanding of the english language can see that the definition of the word infallible does not accurately describe the biblle. there need just be ONE thing to make it fallible, there are more than just one thing.

Doesn't any christian truly understand the word infallible? I think not.

maximum Christians at present do settle for evolution. no longer interior the kind of random genetic injuries, yet as orchestrated by ability of smart layout. those Christians who do not are specially American Fundamentalist. (outdoors the U. S. you do not discover many Christians who strive against over this.) For the Fundamentalist it truly is a probability to the authority of the Bible which says that the earth changed into created in 6 literal days. i experience there is not any difficulty with being a Christian and accepting evolution as a certainty. I nonetheless recoil even as someone will tell me that technology proves this or that... Like seeing that a chimpanzee is ninety 8% genetically human and that human beings ought to no longer evaluate themselves as "particular". those scientists have an inclination to apply evolution to get rid of dignity, freedom, and all spirituality from the human condition. perchance it truly is the more effective probability from believing in evolution.
