I've had to bring my car in 3 times in the last 3 weeks, already spent 1,300 on thngs like a new mass air flow sensor, ignition coil, spark plugs and some other misc. things (like their damn expansive labor too!) The third time the check engine light came on, I brought it back (third week in a row) and they inform me it is my catalytic converter and 2 new oxygen sensors I need....another 1,300! Turns out, I had a new catalytic converter already put in in 2003 when it was still covered under warranty. Why the heck should I have to go through that again? I called NissanUsa for the hell of it to see if there was anything they can do (or if anything, just to tell them the horror stories about this car.) Well, I get a call back, sorry ma'am, there is nothing we can do for you, your car is out of warranty!!! Why should I have to take my car back to the dealer 3 weeks in a row? They don't take care of their customers at all....mainly because my warranty expired. Nissan never again!!!

By the way, it is a 2000 Nissan GXE, 97,000 miles. I thought Nissans were supposed to go for a long time. This damn thing hasn't even gotten to 100,000 miles yet. And guess what I else I found out...it was made on a Monday....in Mexico. Figures. Hope they enjoyed their lemons in their Corona!!!!!!! (No lime here, definitely a lemon).

They will never get me back as a customer, they just simply do not care.

I won't even mention all the recalls this car has had.

POS car!!!!!

Why doesn't Nissan care about their customers?????

Shel---I'd have to say I agree with you 100%. I am no longer a fan of Nissans, and neither is my family or many of my friends after witnessing all this gargage I have had to put up with pretty much since I bought the car!!!!

First,
if you had the catalytic converter replaced once,
it should still be under the parts warranty from Nissan.

The dealer SHOULD have known that.

Second,
YES, nissan cutomer service is a pain. They don't treat dealerships any better than the customers, either.

Third,
You may want to consider getting all of your maintenece records and taking your car to a diffrent dealership for repair. It sounds to me like they are fixing a whole lot of things that are RELATED to the problem, but not fixing THE PROBLEM.

When the engine light comes on, your computer throws codes to let the technician know what needs looked at or replaced,
after he fixes it, he re-sets the computer and the light goes out. If the problem wasn't fixed, the light will come back on.

First I would want to check the simple things, I'm not sure what the original problem with the car was, but I'm just going to guess it may have been a trouble code concerning fuel mixture, perhaps too rich or too lean? I'm just going by the nature of the parts that were replaced. Either way after a repair is made for a rich or lean condition, the Nissan engine control module requires that the self-learning memory of the module be cleared. If it is not cleared after a repair, the same trouble code can be stored over and over again, even if there is no malfunction, the control module would then be able to relearn correct fuel trims. This may be something that has been overlooked.

The second plan of action would be to take it to a different dealer, of course explain to them what has been going on at the first dealership in regards to the attempts to repair. Don't go into the second dealer with a bad attitude towards them as well, remember this is a completely different establishment. You will have to pay again of course, but it will be worth a second opinion. I would suggest a good lawyer to try to regain the funds paid to the first dealer for failure to repair, and you will have an even better case against them if the second dealer actually repairs the problem, thus proving the first attempts to repair were incorrect. Make sure you keep up with all of your paperwork, and have maintenance records handy.

I am confident that dealerships have the best technicians, but you may have found a group that throws parts at problem instead of actually diagnosing. A good technician will test the faulty part through a series of flowcharts and factory reference values before replacing to make certain that it is something that you actually need.

i wonder if the lemon law still applies
mechanics now days rely too much on the computer to diagnose
if the computer gets a bad reading you get a part you didn't need
a good tech will test the part if possible
the dealer dosent pay the mechanics well the good tech leave for more money you find them at indepent garages dont believe me read my next question on dealer mechanics
