It changes from software to software, but many times the information regarding registration is actually kept within the software's registry file. DO NOT mess with your registry file, unless you have very extensive knowledge of what you are doing. The Operating System registry is what controls whether a program runs or not, where the operating system knows to look for things, etc. This is also one of the primary targets of viruses and spyware, as this contains a huge amount of data regarding what goes on in your computer.
In any case, if you are trying to get around the "try before you buy" thing and hack the code, I'd say either 1) Learn to Hack; or 2) Just be a responsible person and buy it.

In my experience, shareware (trial software) doesn't come with a key, because they want lots of people to try it. When it expires and you decide to buy it, then they send you the key after you send them the money.
If you downloaded some trial software, just click on it to activate it.

it isn't in the folders you downloaded, it is available only through the company, they random generate a code which is the program knows conforms to the list of codes that are acceptable.
Cheating a software company isn't nice and could be considered illegal and this question could be removed if reported.

Try before you buy shouldn't need a key, unless u have to register on line and they send you one through e-mail.
Just kick the tower a few times.
