I have been on heavy doses of fentanyl for 3 months for chronic pain. I do not think this is a good idea. I have got addicted to the meds and it is taking more and more to relieve my pain. I may be fooling myself about the pain and just like the pain killer.

it depends on how addicted you are, which drugs you are using, etc. i would talk to your doctor about other methods of pain relief if you are concerned with addiction. like mentioned above, the TENS unit is great, as are other methods such as epidurals, muscle relaxants, anti-inflammatories, and other types of units that can be implanted into the skin that are operated by remote controls that help to reduce pain. if you have a pain clinic in your town, i would strongly advise visiting it because pain management clinics are really good at finding alternative methods of pain control - they may incorporate pain medications into your plan of care but if you want to taper off of the medications, they can do their best to accomodate you and find you other ways of pain relief.

If you are having chronic pain you must take something but I agree that they are addictive. Maybe you should ask your doctor about the tens unit its electrodes you place on your skin and these are attached to a devise that sends electric stimulus and interrupts the pain signal to the brain. This isn't addictive. Some cities have Pain management clinics where they do Epidurals to stop the pain. Good luck

I dont know about the withdrawl effects of pain-killers but I have recently been weened off Paxil, which, while wonderful with my depression, caused me to suffer from extreme restlessness. As my dose of Paxil was shortened and less frequent & my new med introduced, I hardly suffered any withdrawal at all. I don't know if you can use the same method, but you should talk to your doctor about it.
