Try living with three cats who do it everytime I get up to leave the room.I've almost tripped several times over them.I love my cats but I do not want to fall and break something.Mine do it because they think it is time for their food to be placed in a bowl.

So that they can be first out the door. We have tamed cats to live indoors, it is their natural instinct to run when a door open. They want to run through the grass.

I belive is because in nature, animals let the most important ones in the group always go first, so if they think they are the most important in the house (cats always do ) they will try to go first. You can teach a dog not to do it, and he will understand you are the boss. A cat won't learn because they belive they are the boss!

I think it's because they don't want to get smashed in the door if they are last and they really want to make sure that they get where they want to go. My cat does the same thing.

My son does the same thing and whether it's the cat or him I almost break my neck trying to avoid running into them. Cats are goofballs.

No just to make you fall and your money to fall out of your pockets so they can buy nip (you did have that extra twenty, now you know where it went!)
Your cat is the master and you are the servant he goes first(didn't you know,it's in the manual you got with the cat!)

My cat only does this when it comes to feeding him. He wants to first in the room where his bowl stands. He might think I want to steal his food ;-)).

because they like being annoying. Or because you've just opened the door and they want to go out or to another room...
