this seems to be a true or false question and the answer is:
true (for 99% of Christians - hell, most Christians don't read even if their priest tells them to read something!)

The Bible tells us clearly to study. 2 Timothy 2:15 says study to show yourself approved unto God, a worker that doesn't have to be ashamed, but is able to correctly expound the Word of Truth.
That is the job of every Christian... to learn as much as we can so that we can have an answer ready when people ask us about our faith... As crazy as this may sound... that doesn't mean just study the Bible.. it also means studying history and science and even other religious texts... so we can have a well rounded understanding...
A Christian who waits for an order to read is in danger of not being armed properly when faced with a war... whether a spiritual war or a war of words.

A TRUE Christian will follow the Word of God moreover the word of man. Follow God, not man. Plus, I don't have a priest, I have a pastor.

Not true. My priest does not require reading nor discourage it. We Catholics make those choices based upon our own feelings and perhaps recommendations.
