If you mean at a distance it's an international sign of acknowledgement. Raised eyebrows, slight throwback of head followed by nod. People of all language understand this 'gesture' - it's a sort of 'Hello' without words.

If you mean the person is close to you and in conversation then it would indicate agreement with something you have said.

in me it means how can i get away from this conversation without appearing rude. or i am being told a long story by a grandchild and am nodding encouragingly.

it could be a lil bit of doubt in them..lyk saying...
"really"...."aha"..while nodding..for me thats not a good sign..
