I send in my litter regsistration as soon as the litter is born. I always have my papers by the time the puppies can "leave home". This doesn't sound right.

I'm trying to figure out why you bought a dog and didn't get the papers then and there? Every reputable breeder I have bought from, I got the papers when I picked the dog up. Probably a lost cause, but report them to the AKC. Some breeders sell the papers so that mutts can be called a pure bred. We saw a dachshund mix once that was labeled a purebred boxer- and the owners believed it!

You may be screwed. Next time don't pay in full until you get the papers. I have always paid half when I get the dog and I pay the other half when I get the papers. If it is a reputable breeder, this will not be a problem. It is likely though, that the breeder really doesn't have the papers yet.

Through experience....Believe the breeder....It takes forever to get registration papers because of the back log at The American Kennel Club and International Breeders Clubs....Still waiting for papers to come for my Cavalier King Charles Spaniel's litter that was born in February of 2005....

If either parent is an import or if the pup crossed national borders (say from US to Canada) the papers may be delayed.

Oh and Donna I would worry about that 2005 litter with papers not back - 2006 litters are back, I suspect they have been LOST in processing.

A legitimate breeder would have had you fill out the papers to transfer the legally registered owner info the day you picked the pup up. I would contact the AKC to find out if the breeder is registered and then you can have them help you if necessary! Hope this helps!

You didn't specify what registry your puppy is registered with. While it's probably AKC and that's what everyone is assuming, not all registries have fast turn-arounds. I'd recommend calling the registry directly to find out if there is a backlog or if your breeder is even registered with them.

You need to put pressure on her. We went through the same thing and it was a nightmare.
