well its in here genes. but does not mean her kid will have it. i dont have it, my husband dont. but my son has adhd. i have 2 brothers that does have it. 1 has a kid that has it. the other has 2 kids none have it. so shes got like a 50/50 chance they will. but she has it so it will be easy for her to deal with cause she knows what its all about. when my son found out he had it we had to find out stuff that we never heard of. i hope she dont let adhd effect her having children 100yrs from now. (as for the jerk saying theres no such thing as adhd and how she must be a single mom. dude grow up. better yet with your answer maybe you should be tested. )

I have add(no hyperactive for me) my son has adhd and my daughter does not. It is hereditary, but learning about it and the small things you can do to deal with it make a world of difference. I was 17 when they finally figured it out and have spent every moment sense that day studying and learning and trying things to help me cope, now no one knows I have it unless I tell them. Good luck to you in your future.

Yes, it is considered genetic. I would guess that either you or her father has ADD as well. From what my DR told me...the hyperactivty part of it should go away in 2-3 years. But the attention deficit will remain.

http://www.kidshealth.org/parent/question/medical/heredity_adhd.html There is not a lot known about this ailment. I would also check the name of the medication you are giving her against the list on the net for adhd. Some of the medications given can cause sterility.

She might, there does seem to be a genetic link, but I don't believe it is very strong.

Personally, it is not something she should worry about. My son too is ADHD,his kidhood was rough due to that and dyslexia as well, but he seems to have gotten past these problems.

It is entirely possible. It tends to have some sort of genetic componet. It is very treatable now though, so look for the signs and get help. Good luck!

ADHD is a bogus diagnosis, in my opinion. I'm guessing you're a single parent.

Think about it.

there is 1 in 4 chances that her child will have it - this counts to every child she has.

You should ask her doctor this question and let him/her answer her correctly. You cannot expect to get an answer here.
