Really yes some have been trained for fighting and that is why they have such a bad reputation but really I know the sweetest dog and guess what she is a pit bull there are no bad dogs just bad owners who teach thier dogs to be bad no dog is born totally evil (except for the rare one with the jecal and hyde thing but anyway) so I really don't get why people say all pit bulls should be put down.

Probably because their are a lot of cases of pit bulls attacking humans. Don't get me wrong I agree with you 100% my sister had a pit bull she was the sweetest thing. I later got a pit bull and was afraid of him at first bucause of his look then I realized how sweet he was. Just comes to show can't judge a book by it's cover.

Because it is the easy solution. Man bred them so man should be responsible to deal with the problem. Putting them to sleep is the easy solution. I have met many totally sane and obedient Pit Bulls. All of them had responsible owners. It's the stupid punks that gave the breed such a bad name. Most of the attracts were with no owners present which means it was the total irresponsibility of the owner which was to blame. I own an American Bulldog and people are already speaking of breeding them with the Pits to hide the bloodline. We are in the 2000's, the dog fighting days are over leave the poor dogs alone. They should give jail time to anyone that possess a dog that attacks a human being with a proper trial of course.

Not all people say they should be put to sleep. I know it seems that way from a lot of rescue shows on animal planet, but not everyone agrees.

The reason most rescued pit bulls and other so-called agressive breeds who have signs of having been fought are put to sleep, is the city could be held liable if they allowed a dog that they know to have vicious tendencies be adopted. Then say that person who adopted it was not careful and the dog got lose and attacked someone? The person who allowed the dog to be adopted could be held responsible.

That is why it is so important that people take a more active role in helping police locate and arrest dog-fighters. Because until we start opening our mouths in the animal(s)'s defense they will continue to have a bad reputation.

There are 4.8 million registered pit bull terriers and that many more unregistered in this country. They were NEVER breed for human aggression, they were used as nanny dogs to protect children. Their jaws are no different that any other breed, they do not lock. American Temperament Society, who has tested all breeds of dogs, Found pit bulls rated at 83%, two points higher than golden retriever which is this country's most loved family dog. You can see the list at ww.atts.org. US customs all time #1 detection dog is a pit bull that was found in a freezer. Left there by the drug dealer that owned him. Now he puts drug dealers in jail. One of the top search and rescue dogs is a pit bull owned by Kristine Crawford. Her team of SAR pit bulls was hand pick by NASA to help recover the astronauts of the Colombia disaster. They have been attacked while they are trying to find a lost child just because they are pit bulls. See their story at www.forpitssake.org. People like two Us Presidents, T. Roosevelt and W. Wilson, Helen Keller, Thomas Edison and General Patton owned pit bulls. With all of this I have no idea why people think they are all bad.

I have no idea. I love pit bulls and my aunt and I are thinking about breeding them. With almost 5 million pit bulls in the US if they were so bad why is there more oit bull related attacks. With only 500 some odd deaths by dog atttacks in the past 15 years, there are 52 breeds involed in these deaths, that makes the odds about0.000004% of getting killed by any dog.Here is a little something for all thsoe people;
Prayer of a Pit bull
Spirit in the sky, who watches over all animals:
It is my prayer and my request that you grant greater understanding,
and acceptance to humans;
those who love us, and those who hate us.
That they will know how loyal we are, how brave we are,
and how loving we are. Help them to accept us as a breed in whole, and not let the few tragedies shine brighter than the many great traits that we have. And those who would kill me,
let them know, I forgive them, even though I don't understand their hatred. And those who would beat me, let them know I still love them, even though it is not the honorable way.
Thank you for all the strong traits that you have given to me,
and my breed. Help those to know that I stand for
courage, strength, loyalty, and bravery.
And as my master already knows, let those who would come against my family know that I would surely die defending them.
And just one last thing that I would ask:
Let my master know, that if you should call me away,
that I will wait patiently at those pearly gates
until the one who chose me,
comes home.
Amen.

It's the owners not the dogs that should be put to sleep. Why people buy dogs they will not train is beyond me.
These are the same people that will have children that will run wild and they will wonder why when they are in court!
They should have to take a training test prior to Puchasing such beautiful animals! Its should be a law!

These laws are mainly a reaction to what the public perceives. It is sort of like child molesters. Yes, they are terrible people. But, should they really be treated so much more poorly after they have done their time than murderers? The public thinks that pit bulls and child molesters are worse than any other breed/criminal, so they are treated in an unnecessarily harsh way.

Blame the news. They only show you stories about pit bulls when they've attacked someone, and you rarely see a dog attack story unless it involves a pit bull.

People are basically morons. They see something on TV, they believe what they see. The nice man wouldn't lie, right?

They see enough put bull attack stories and they all want to see the breed destroyed.

The saddest thing I have had to face is their are human beings that see training an animal to fight is alright. At the risk of being called an animal lover, the reason the dog is outlawed is because we can't get the humans to stop doing this. It is easier to see the breed of dog and have it put down, then to enact and enforce harsher penalties to protect them from the people doing this. I agree with you it is not the dog it is the owner.

I don't think they should be put to sleep but I would never have one around children. I've heard of pitbulls who have been raised since pups in loving homes and have a real sweet temperament but one day they just attack for no apparent reason. Not all of them do but I have heard too many bad stories. I love all animals and pitbulls are such beautiful dogs but I would never own one.
