Jesus established the church while He ministered on earth, starting with the disciples and those who believe His message. Jesus established himself as God as well, from the beginning of time and throughout His ministry. He sent His Holy Spirit to empower the church after He rose up into heaven to continue the work that He began. The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit is the Godhead three in one. The original term Elohim is a plural description of a singular God. Saying the Church of God, the Church of Jesus or the Church of the Holy Spirit, they all reflect the same meaning it's just that through the ultimate sacrifice that Jesus made we can come to God forgiven. This gives us another reason to worship Jesus and give Him glory.
Your reference in 1 Cor. is concerning how christians relate to others and doesn't really apply to this statement.

The "church" is people who are followers of Jesus Christ. That's why you hear of the church being called the body of Christ or the church of God. It's all the same. The church isn't the building, but the believers in the building. You can be anywhere with two or more present and have church, because if you're a Christian, you are the church. In the same way, I belong to Christ, and no longer belong to myself, if I am a Christian. Jesus gave His life for us, His church. So now we belong to Him. <*)))><

Jesus is the groom and the church is the bride. In that sense, the church is Jesus'. But the church is also the kingdom of God. We might not understand it but it all works out. Plus, Jesus is God.
