August appointment may decide if I can get into a walking cast. That is like mid August.

Whether you gain or lose weight will depend upon the balance between muscles shrinking due to lack of exercise and your eating habits.

If you're unable to exercise very much, your muscles will naturally get smaller, which may cause you to lose weight. Smaller muscles also burn off fewer calories.

How much you gain or lose will also depend on what you eat and how much you eat. Be careful of boredom eating!

I recommend doing any exercise you can, if not with your legs then with your arms to build muscles to burn off calories, and really be careful of your diet.

Good luck!

Interesting question... while the muscles in your leg may atrophy some (shrink), the inablity to walk around may cause you to burn less calories. However, having said that, I too, right now, am walking around on crutches due to surgery on my foot and I tend to think that walking with them burns more calories than walking normally since it seems to be much harder work!!!

It's smart not to take "magical diet pills", etc. while breastfeeding. But as long as you continue to breastfeed, your milk will come in. The amount of milk is in response to the amount your baby needs, not how much you eat. It will increase as his/her appetite increases, regardless of how much you eat. (within reasonable limits, don't starve yourself!) Eating healthy and swimming LOTS are probably your best options right now, try swimming in warmer water to soothe your muscle and joint pains while still getting a good workout.
