A psychopath is also known as antisocial personality disorder.
People with antisocial personality disorder characteristically act out their conflicts and ignore normal rules of social behavior. These individuals are impulsive, irresponsible, and callous. Typically, the antisocial personality has a history of legal difficulties, belligerent and irresponsible behavior, aggressive and even violent relationships. They show no respect for other people and feel no remorse about the effects of their behavior on others. These people ware at high risk for substance abuse, especially alcoholism, since it helps them to relieve tension, irritability and boredom.

Now, don't quote me on this, but I've heard that as many as 80% of all prison inmates meet criteria for antisocial personality disorder.

Also called sociopath, a psychopath is somebody who is not psychotic but seems not to have a conscience. They don't really like people, or respect most people. They tend to be superficially pleasant. A psychopath usually won't feel guilty for doing something wrong. Contrary to popular belief, the majority of them are not major criminals because this is a very impractical way to live. For instance, if a psychopath marries a rich woman for her money, he may be prudent enough not to cheat on her, because he would lose so much money.

I read something recently that speculated that most of our top business and political professionals are very likely 'functional psychopaths'... go figure! If lack of conscience and moral ethics based solely on momentary desire or need are defining factors, then I would say the article was right!
