I don't understand why they think this way when it says plainly in the bible that all generations shall call Mary blessed. It doesn't say anywhere that all generations shall call Eve blessed.

Eve disobeyed God, and said yes to the devil. But, Mary completely surrendered herself to the will of God saying yes to Him.

I asked Protestants who they thought was superior, the Virgin Mary or Eve. Most said they thought Eve was superior. I think they said this to justify their rejection of Catholic doctrine on the mother of our Lord.

Because Mary got pregnant before she was married?

But seriously, I don't know what you're smoking. I've never heard anything like what you're saying. But there is somewhat of a resistance towards Mary because Protestants think Catholics take it too far. Yes, they don't worship Mary like you do. But they don't worship Eve, either, for that matter.

And don't forget that Mother of God crap, that drives some people nuts. It seems to suggest that God wouldn't exist without her.

But, lest you forget, God has a grandmother, too. And isn't a grandmother more grand than a mother? And a grandfather. With their culture being a patriarchy, the father having authority over his daughters while they are unwed, at the time of conception, Mary's father would have been the most important and head figure in the family.

Therefore, you should honor the grandfather of God most of all.

You answered yourself CORRECTLY! The Catholic DOCTRINE! Not a Biblical Doctrine, but a Catholic, man-made Doctrine is what the Protestants find repulsive.

Protestants find Mary PARTICULARLY BLESSED AMONG ALL WOMEN! If you ask, almost ALL christian women would kill to exchange places with the Mother of Christ (not God, but just a perfect MAN). The Catholic Doctrine is so Man Made and false, saying He was part of a Triune God (3rd century addition - pagan religion addition), that he was a God Man (again, pagan, 3rd century addition), that Mary WAS the VIRGIN birth (SEE SEMIRAMIS, married to Nimrod, had herself declared the "virgin Mother of God," 3rd generation after Ham, Noah's son, first Queen of Babylon, the center of false religion), and on and on (read The Two Babylons by the Reverend Alexander Hislop (a Catholic Priest who exposes all these catholic lies, weird I know) and alot more. Very interesting BOOK!

Mary also went on the Bible says and had "other sons and daughters." So she definately didn't stay a virgin! Nor is there any reason she should, only Christ had to be born from a virgin, not HER.

I am a protestant and neither one was holy. Only God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit deserve to be called Holy. Eve just so happened to be created from a man thus the name wo-man. A help-meet for man. Virgin Mary was the handmaiden of the God. I have read the Word of the Lord many times but never have I read that one person is holier than another. This is a religious question not a Biblical question. That is the problem all religions are basically alike except for one element. This gives rise for Satan to step in. He never misses a step either. Eve was the mother of all creation and Mary was the mother of our Lord and Savior.

Luke 1:46-48 - "And Mary said: My soul exalts the Lord, and my spirit has rejoiced in God my SAVIOR (she needed a savior), For He has had regard for the humble state of His bondslave, For behold, from this time on all generations will count me BLESSED".

Mary was favored and blessed but she was still human and needed a Savior. There is not one scripture in the bible from beginning to end that suggests or states that Mary was born without sin. That would make her God. She is NOT God and she cannot save anyone. I can't wait to meet her someday as I think she is very special. She went to live with the apostle John after the crucifixion. There is NOT one scripture that says she ascended to heaven. If you check with the Catholic church they will tell you that it is "tradition". Don't you believe if Mary was sinless and ascended to heaven the writers of the New Testament would have put it in at least one scripture. She traveled with the disciples - was there at Pentacost. If anyone has a scripture I would be happy to hear it.

As to the Eve question, I'm protestant and I've never heard anyone say anything to the effect that Eve was called more righteous than Mary. Can you explain where you got that from.

God bless everyone and with all that is going on in Israel today, look up as the coming of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ may be on the horizon.

I'm answering later than several others, so I'm also tallying the concensus. First off, the word "Protestant" doesn't really occur among Christians outside of the Catholic context. It's pretty much the same as any other exclusionist slur- n-words and so on. Secondly, the only things we "know" about either of these women are their legends. There is one woman that I know that I am supposed to consider holy: the woman I married and promised God that I would love for as long as we both live. As for judging women to be unholy because they had sex and conceived children, I could never support a judgment like that against everyone's mothers. When you revere the Virgin Mary, you are symbolically paying respects to the archetypal mother goddess, giving your appreciation to the very idea of Motherhood. That's a nice thing to do. Appreciate your own mother first, then either yourself as the next in the chain of mothers or the mother of your children. Next, extend your appreciation and respect to the other mothers that are raising the next generation- the women who are mothers now. After that, if you really have a lot of unexpressed appreciation left over, you could feel that toward the great mothers of history. Pick any one you want, she fed her children and made them dress warm on cold days.
Oh, by the way...no woman ever became a mother without having sex, at least not in pre-artificial insemination days. Myths are fun, but we shouldn't let them blind us to seeing reality.
Hope this helps.

No Protestants I know think that way. I really don't know where you got that idea at all. I have met with protestants in more places then just this country too
We don't think of Mary as Holy but recognize that she is honored above all women, after all God chose her to be the one to carry, and give birth to his Son Jesus. No where in the Bible however, in either the Catholic or Protestant Bible is she considered without sin, nor was she ever meant to be prayed to. She did live a life that was exemplary according to God, or she wouldn't have been chosen in the first place.
The Bible say "For there is one mediator between God and Man, the Man Christ Jesus. Again it says it in both the Protestant Bible, as well as the Catholic Bible.

This is the first time I've ever seen a statement of this kind. Let's not start the Catholic/Protestant wars, shall we?

No one I know of holds Eve in higher esteem than Mary. By the way, Mary was not sinless. The only person that was sinless, the bible states, was Jesus Himself. That the bible doesn't record Mary's sins doesn't mean she didn't have them.

Yes, Mary said "generations will call me blessed". She was blessed, she was chosen by God to be, as she called herself, God's handmaid. That doesn't deify her!

I am Protestant and never thought Eve was righteous. But, Protestants do not worship Mary. We believe she was a wonderful person but not one to be worshiped. Jesus is the Alpha and Omega, who we look to, Mary was a good person who God bestowed the ultimate good luck to bear his son. Protestants sometime feel that with all the statues, Hail Marys, etc. Catholics put more emphasis on Mary than Jesus and we do not believe this is correct. In fact (not myself) but many Protestants describe Catholicism as a Marianic cult, not Christianity

Who did the survey to determine that most Protestants think Eve was more righteous than Mary? I would want to peruse the study first to determine the statistical validity of the conclusion before commenting on the question since the question seems to present a straw man fallacy.

Doesn't sound like a very scientifically conducted study.
