Of course there can be orange tabby females - you've got one!
The large majority of orange tabbies are males, but orange tabby females are not really rare. They're just sort of uncommon.
In females the orange ("red" to cat fanciers) gene is usually expressed as calico rather than orange tabby, but there are plenty of orange tabby females.
Theoretically it's possible to have a calico male, too, but I don't know anyone who claims to have seen or even heard of one.

Tiger cats can be males or females. Calicos are only females, or, more properly, have 2 X chromosomes (but there could be a Y in there, too.) Each X has a white-and-one-color gene, usually one X with white-and-black and one X with white-and-orange (though there are other color mixes, too.) If you have a male that is XY, it will only have one white-and-one-color gene and you can't get white and two colors. But tiger stripes aren't sex-linked, so the coat pattern isn't based on whether the cat is male or female.

some coloration varieties are carried on the intercourse chromosomes such as a results of fact the tri-coloration calicos and tortoiseshells. those cats are ninety 9 and 40 4/one hundred % woman. Orange tabbies are statistically seventy 5% male, 25% woman and that's in simple terms the genetic roll of the cube at a undeniable mating. We had a muddle of four woman orange tabbies on the look after 1 time.

I have a female orange tiger striped cat. She is a long hair, she has round yellow eyes, and is the sweetest one I have ever had. I have over 30 years of cat ownership and she is amazingly gentle compared to other cats. She weighs in at about 16 pounds and she is two years old.
Her name is Doggie. She loved being called Doggie when we first got her. She purred and kissed up every time we said Doggie, so she kind of named herself.

How weird. I think you might be right. ALL the orange cats i've ever seen have been males with real strong features in the face.

I have a friend with one. The only kind of cat that can only be one gender is tortoiseshells. They can only be female b/c the color combonation requires both Xs.
