To live for Jesus, or die for Jesus? Pick one, and tell me why.

For Tina: My memory needs an upgrade! I had to figure out what you were asking regarding the Greek for "left." Now that I remember, here's the response:

The word in Matthew 24:41-42 for "left," is the word "aphiemi," which is derived from "apo," (which is often translated "from") and "hiemi" (to send; an intensive form of eimi, "to go"); to send forth, in various applications. It is used in the KJV as any of the following, depending on the tense and context: cry, forgive, forsake, lay aside, leave, let (alone, be, go, have), omit, put (send) away, remit, suffer, yield up.

It's a bit more complicated, but I hope that helps.

To live for Jesus is to die daily so you cannot just pick one, they are incorporated together.

How can anyone answer this question without experiencing death. It may depend on what a person has dealt with in life, or how torturous their death is. Every case is different I suppose. Jesus appeared to feel his torturous death was going to be very difficult. But some have been blessed with painless deaths, like Enoch and Elijah, I believe. Hebrews 11:5,13,35b,39.

By the way could you expound on the Greek origin of the word "LEFT" like you did for taken, for Matthew 24:40, 41, please. I noticed you cannot be contacted.

Thank you for the work you did on the word LEFT... : )

It depends by what you mean by "live" for Jesus. Many people who claim to be Christians aren't in my opinion "living" for Jesus although it's not place to judge. In Revelations it claims that the martyrs will reign on earth for a thousand years with Jesus. I think it is impossible to for any us to say which is harder because none of has faced the decision and if they have faced the decision then apperently they chose to not to die for Jesus.

You cannot live for Jesus until you die for Jesus and spiritually speaking that is what we do when we accept Him into our hearts. He took our place and when He was crucified, we were crucified and when He was buried, we were buried and when He was resurrected, we were resurrected by the same power, His Holy Spirit, that resurrected Jesus Christ. So we become new creations in Christ filled with His power. And if Jesus had not died, then there would have been no resurrection and no power to resurrect us from the dead nature that we were living in. So in answer to your question, neither one is easier than the other, because it wasn't easy for Christ, yet He did it because He first loved us.

I live for Jesus everyday. The real question would be which is harder. I imagine that dying for Him would be harder. Hopefully I will be willing to do both if called upon to do that. I realize Christ's sacrifice for me and hope that when I am tested I will be able to do the same for him.

Maxxx85 is on the right track. It must be realized that for Christians to live IS to die. To die to our old selves, to die to sin, to die to the world. Christ said that he who loses his life for Him will, in truth, gain it. The Christian religion is an ASCETIC religion in which we must unite ourselves to our Lord's holy sufferings and death. We do this by warring against the flesh and against our passions.
To literally die for Christ(aka martyrdom) is but the most extreme way of living for Christ because death is not the end of things or merely a "ceasing of life" but in fact the "narrow gate" that leads to eternal Glory.

To die for Jesus because then you only have to face one challenge. Living for Jesus means you have to face challenges every day.

It depends upon the life and the death. If you are living in a country where you are persecuted for living for Jesus that would be difficult and death might be welcome. But then again, if you live in one of those countries and you are being tortured to death, that would be even worse.
