Depends. If the speed limit is 75, you generally don't want to go faster than 80, since enforcement is more strict at that speed. If the speed limit is 65 or lower, you're generally safe going up to 10 over, and when the speed limit is 55, up to 15 over can be the norm (55 is an unrealistic speed on most highways it's posted on). Always pay attention to the flow of traffic, and if you feel you're passing too many people, back off. Traveling in a group helps minimize the chances of being singled out for ticketing. If you're alone at night on a road you don't know, don't go more than 5 over, since you won't be able to spot the speed traps. On local roads with lower speed limits, 10 over is usually okay, but no more than 5 over through small towns that can be speed traps. It depends on the locale and the officer. On rural roads, though, where the view is long and clear during the day, and no police officers in sight, I've gone up to 35 over the limit (shame on me, I know, but the road was so long and straight). Go with your own judgment, and stay safe.

Only local cops will ticket you for 10 over the limit. State Troopers need 15 or more to bother stopping you. The only variable is how fast traffic in general is going.
I consistently live by a rule of 9-10 over the limit and have never received a speeding ticket. I have been driving for ten years that way (and have state trooper relatives who tell me I am fine with this rule).
The only time you get a ticket for 5 over the limit is when you were doing 15 over and the cop cuts you a break OR the judge reduces it in court.

I know how you feel. I'm the same way. My father tells me that I have a lead foot all the time. I do 5 over almost every where and have not gotten a ticket. By state law you are allowed to go over 5 miles an hour w/o getting a ticket.

If California has a zero tolerance, flat fee for speeding, 5 miles over would be considered "speeding." Keep in mind that even if you can't see them, the highway patrol is monitoring you electronically. Odds are, the longer you exceed the speed limit the more likely one day you'll get a ticket.

typically, if the speed limit is 55, i usually hit the cruise control button at around 57 or 58. my car wont go any faster than 60, or lower than 56 when i do that. it seems that most cops dont really care as long as you stay at or under 60. over than, and you're putting yourself at risk of getting a ticket. but any cop that wants to pull you over for any reason will find a cause in about 3 seconds. my friend's dad is a cop and listed the things you can legally be pulled over for. its unreal. if they want you, they can have dozens of reasons. and even if you say "well, i was only going 58!" they can say "well, the LAW is 55."
so, do yourself a favor, and dont go much over the limit if you can avoid it. my dad got a ticket once for going 2 miles over the limit. i think thats kinda lame, but the law is the law, and theres not much you can do to argue.

you won't have the ability to be severe........ think of approximately it....... speed cut back..... no longer Required speed. the cost cut back is the cut back of speed in which you would be able to holiday on the line, no longer the mandatory minimum. various the time human beings stress 5 under for protection motives, and relatively, think of approximately it....... how briskly is 5 greater miles in step with hour? it is going to no longer get you everywhere that plenty swifter! basically the comparable as utilizing 5 miles over won't get you there that plenty swifter, yet.... 5 miles in step with hour could make a brilliant difference on the impact for the period of a vehicle twist of fate...... basically nutrition for theory.

Never been stopped for 5 over. 7 or 8, one time. In most places I think up to 10 over is usually tolerated.

Depends on the cop, the situation, location, weather, flow of traffic. I have never gotten a tkt. Any cop can pull you over for going 1 mph over the limit, most likely they won't, drive safe and use your head.... you will be fine
