If you want you can buy this stuff called "bikini zone" it is a 2% lidocain gel (numbs), about $5.00 to reduce the pain after.

Buy SLANT tip tweezers" eveyone else swears by "Tweezerman" ($12.00 - $20.00) The ones I have are "Revlon" I bought for $6.00.

Take an ibprophen at least 20 mins before you start.

Get some Rubbing alcohol & cotton balls on hand.

You will also need a light colored eyeliner. "Wet n' Wild" brand for 99 cents is fine. just get white.

Wash your hand well.
Clean the tweezers and the area to be tweezed with alcohol.

Take an honest look at your features in the mirror: your nose, your chin etc. Are they prominant or delicate? If you have bold features, stick to heavier brows - don't over pluck, it will look wierd. Even on a girl with more delicate features over plucking can make you look expressionless.

Do your eye brows naturally arch (curve)? or are they straight/ flat?

Do your eyebrows have an angle in them, like a hinge, they go up, then have a peak and go down? When does this happen. Ideally this "Angle" is at the outer 2/3 of your eye.

Once you have accessed the look of your brow take the light colored pencil and shade the areas that fall OUTSIDE the idea shape...ONLY on the BOTTOM, or BETWEEN.

For a Guide: Hold the pencil at the side of your nose going straight up and down, draw a line (on the side closer to the middle of your face) this is where your eye brow should begin on that side. Repeate for the other side.

You can safely tweeze away any hairs that fall between those two lines.

Now remembering the overall robusness of your features, and the natural shape of your brow use the pencil to shade away hairs from the bottom to create a small curve or arch, and somewhat thin the brow. Try only shading about 2 "rows" of hairs at first on each side.

The lightness of the pencil will make the hairs seem kind of invisible when you back away from the mirror to give you an idea what you will look like when the hair is gone...if you kind of squint.

If the shape looks good tweeze away ONLY the hairs that have been colored by the white pencil. then put the tweezer down and walk away from the mirror.

It is really hard to judge how things look up close you need to be several feet away to really see how they "fit" on your face. Even if you feel like it is crooked and you just want to "pluck a few more to make it even"

Step away from the mirror, and look first. You can always tweeze more. You can not put them back in. Sometimes eyebrows take a really really long time to grow. Ask anyone who has ever had them shaved, or accidentally burnt.

Do not tweeze the ends of your brows too thin, while leaving the part near your nose too thick or it can look like wierd "comas"
Also don't get in the habbit of doing them too thin all the time or when you are old you may not have any left.

Think about movie stars from the 40's and 50's. Aim for Classic. You'll look great!

Once you are done wash your face, and apply a little more alcohol even if it stings, it acts as a astringent to tighten the skin back up and it kills any bacteria that could cause pimples.

If you bought the "bikini zone" apply a thin amount now by gentle patting it in. Don't get the stuff in your eyes though.

Good Luck.

You should get them professionally plucked (or waxed) first, to get the shape you want, and for the rest of the time just do it yourself.

When you pluck them, do it right after taking a hot shower or bath, because your pores will be more open, and it will hurt less to pluck. You can also ice them to numb the pain (it doesn't really hurt that bad anyways, but it's up to you).

Also, you could put white eyeliner on the area you have to pluck, so that you can see the shape of your eyebrows before even plucking them. This will give you a pattern to go by.

i remember feeling much like you the first time i saw my brows as an accessory to my face instead of just hair... :) too bad at that time i didn't have the courage to ask anyone for help! i ended up with a clump at the inner corner, and a thin line over my eye and no way to change it!

the best thing to do is get an eyebrow pencil or liner pencil and color in over your brows until you get the shape you want. take time to play with it, or do each brow different to compare what would look best on your face. (i recommend doing this while you're alone, otherwise it might be embarassing). once you've decided on a shape and both brows match as best as you can get them, that's when you pluck. and you only pluck what is outside of your line. that way when you wach your face, you should have an attractive arch above your eye.

if you're uncomfortable with drawing your own, there are templates (sticker-like) that you can buy at most any drugstore, i think it's made by sally-hansen.

I would say let a professional do it, especially if it's the first time.
But .....I would study them before you pluck ,so you can find your natural arch . Begin plucking upwards, pluck on top, bottom and in the middle. you can also buy a kit like at Walmart & Sallys. As for how often it depends on how fast the hair grows back. Once you start it usually takes longer for the hair to grow back. But I wax mine once a month with one pluck job in between.
Good Luck!

Using Slanted Tweezers makes plucking a LOT easier.

Try pulling the skin under your eye brow with your left hand and plucking with your right hand (vice versa if you're left handed)

Applying white eye shadow under your eye brows could help you see excess hair.

Try using a defining pencil first if you've never plucked before, it can help shape your eye brows (Define your brows yourself,though- do not try stencils, they do not help)

As for how often you should pluck, I'd say every 5 / 7 days. You won't pluck as much as you did on the first time, though.

Good Luck ;)

P.S: remember...Slanted Twezers!

Put a pencil, straight up, right next to your nose so it's touching. Anything to the inside of the pencil needs to be plucked. Also I like put the tweezers in ice water before I pluck.

Don't over pluck!!! There is an eyebrow kit by Anastasia of Beverly Hills which is sold at Sephora it comes with stencils that you can use to make the arch you want.

You can try to numb the area with ice. Take a little brush and brush your eyebrow hairs upwards. Pluck just the hair that is out of the natural arch of your brow. Also, pluck all the hair between your brows (you know, to avoid the uni-brow syndrome).
It'll hurt, I'm not gonna lie to you, so test you womanhood and just grin and bear it. *lol

just after getting out of the shower apply a bit of tooth numbing lotion (the stuff you'd use for a teething baby), not to much or the hair will be too slippery to pluck and go for it

remember, super skinny eyebrows make you look old so pluck a nice arch but don't go too thin.

Do it right after you take a hot bath or shower - that way your pores are open and it hurts less! Consider a face steam before plucking away!

Good luck!

I get mine waxed and its way better than plucking!
