- Haven't you seen that pro-life people go to hospitals where they practice abortion to show their disagreement?

- Haven't you noticed that anti-war people go to the pro-war goverments to show their disagreement?

- Why do you think the anti-globalization movement shows in G-8 meetings? Because they are pro-globalization? No, it's because the other way around.

After this examples, can you understand why some atheists are here?

Religion and Spirituality is a section where people can ask and answer questions about religion and spirituality, it doesn't matter if those questions and answers are opposing views. If I feel like stating my views against religion, this section is the place to post them.

Bye.

Why is this question asked 5 times a day?

Alright...here we go again....

1) This is the Religion and Spirituality section. Those like Atheists that have no religion are still relevant.
2) You don't need to be religious to be spiritual.
3) Not all religions believe in higher deities.
4) If you're so secure in your faith, then Atheists wouldn't threaten you.

Edit: Ronin that's so true! Isn't "Biology" under the "Science" page?

Look, the "religion and spirituality" place is a place to DISCUSS about issues on religion and spirituality, regardless of your beliefs. It is not some kind of club that only religious people can join. Get a life, or at least an education first.

This is a forum for talking about religion, not necessarily believing in it.

Besides, I know more about Christianity than most of the Christians on here. I put a lot of time and effort into studying religion while I was in college, so I consider myself useful when it comes to answering religious questions.

It's just like a Christian to judge people by what they believe rather than by how competent they are, though.

you've considered a progression that I surely have also considered and describe in this kind: The monotheistic/Abrahamic religions ARE polarized antagonistic to the poly-theistic religions and atheism! Poly-theistic religions and atheism area with humanism a minimum of in some respects and may stay mutually extra peacefully than all with the Abrahamic/monotheistic ones. that is b/c the monotheistic reject humanism better than all - they think about far-fetched and unrealistic the idea we may be able to develop into some utopia and all are in reality good or may be without divine intervention - we assume of only the author can unite all and we may be able to no longer unite ourselves effectively ever - it is going to flop each attempt - it is the necessary imperative. i am hoping that helped!

I'm here because people keep telling me that atheism is a religion and there's no such thing as atheists, and that evolution is a religion.

You guys need to make up your minds. If these things are religions, then quit whining about us posting in the religion section.

I just believe in one less God than you do kid...spirituality and religion are two different things...maybe you ought to go to cleaning & laundry and you might learn a few things...since there is no atheist thread, what could be closer than other people who are essentially here to discover why humans exist? I promise atheists don't do any more preaching than christians do, and plus, know thine enemy or whatnot, right? ;)

What am I doing? Answering this question for the 11th time. I like to have fun with the religious people. I educate them, and answer questions directed to atheists. If you do not like reading atheist comments, then tell the person forcing you to do so that it upsets you. I try to keep people from wasting their Sundays. We all have freedom of speech.

1. This question is posted many times every day.

2. I realize that no one reads this when I just link to it, so here is my response to a previous version of this question:

I believe that I have been nothing but courteous to the people of faith here. I openly deny their belief-system. They openly deny mine. That's fine. We have, however, engaged in some very respectful debate, much to the benefit (I hope) of both sides. I know that my beliefs have not changed, but my preconceptions about young-Earth Christians have been shattered by some of the people I have found here. I think that they are wrong, but I am thrilled to have the opportunity to debate with them without resorting to name-calling or rudeness.

Granted, this requires an openness on both our parts. I think that their faith is "wrong." They think that my lack of faith is "wrong." This is where most people get hung up and debate can go no further. If someone disagreeing with you is "offensive," you're stuck. Once you accept this disagreement, you are quite free to exchange ideas. This is what I have found here (for the most part.)

As for why I spend so much time in the religion and spirituality forum, I see faith as playing a huge role in the lives of everyone in the world, be they moderate Muslims, fundamentalist Christians, Pagans, or Atheists like myself.

In my supposedly free country I see gays discriminated against due to faith. People who would never think of using the N-word openly hate and criticize homosexuals for what they are, not who they are.

I see medical advances that could help millions of people stymied by arguments that have their basis in faith. Stem cell research could potentially ease the suffering of billions around the globe, but people of faith stand in the way.

We are currently involved in what may or may not be a holy war. This is an issue of faith.

Our current government supports "faith-based initiatives" in what may be a breach of The Constitution itself.

I know that faith helps people sleep at night. This doesn't undo the tremendous amount of suffering it has inflicted at every turn of history.

I see faith as a problem, and would like to encourage people to put aside their myths and embrace reason. However, I realize that this is futile. As Jonathan Swift said, "It is useless to attempt to reason a man out of a thing he was never reasoned into."

That said, I think that Yahoo Answers provides a wonderful opportunity to try to see where other people are coming from. I disagree with the Christians (and Muslims and Pagans...), but I think it is very important for me to try to understand them. I would hope that they will try to understand me. Once we find some common ground and some mutual respect, we can truly start to talk about things.

I hate the name-calling. The largest problem I have with religion is that it is divisive. I feel that this is the most important aspect of faith that needs to be removed from the equation. Name-calling is also divisive and does not fit into my attempts to act reasonably.

I feel that I deny, but do not scoff. I embrace and enjoy open debate. I think that the things discussed here are important. I'd like to think that some of the things I have to say are pertinent.

If you want a place for only Christians (for example) to exchange ideas, there are plenty of places on the web for that. However, I think that this exclusion of other mindsets and worldviews does a disservice to those who would seek such a closed system.

That's why, as an atheist, I show up on the religion thread.

Some of the best biblical scholars were Atheists, J.M. Robertson, John G. Jackson, Murray-O'Hare, etc.,
it's about knowing the opposition.
