Portland, Maine was. I joined the Army there, after living in Maine and New Hampshire for years.

Sure is. Been there, done that. Great city and state. Portland Maine was settled first. Born on border of Maine in small town in NH. That's all "GODS COUNTRY" up there.

Portland, Maine was settled first, when they decided to name (Portland, OR) the city they wanted either Boston, or Portland. they couldn't agree so they flipped a coin.
