Sure you can, but you'll end up starving yourself and becoming weak because you don't have any food in your system to burn for energy. Eventually your stomach will start eating away at the muscle and it's not going to be a pretty outcome. I'd suggest just eating healthy and exercising daily. Be smart with diet and nutrition. Your body is important and it's not worth risking your health just to look a few pounds lighter.

Yes and no. When you only drink water, then you're not taking in any calories, so your body will start using fat reserves. The bad thing about this is that your metabolism will slow down. The key to losing weight (if you're obese) is a lifestyle change. It does no good to diet hard and lose all kinds of weight, just to gain it back because you're never changed your eating habits. You need to watch what you eat, and give yourself smaller portions when you eat. If you eat constantly, it will raise your metabolism, but you have to eat foods that aren't going to make you gain weight. Stuff like lettuce and also celery (which actually has negative calories), you can nibble on all day. Think of your body as an engine. Calories are fuel. If you eat more than you'll need, then your body does an excellent job of saving up for a rainy day. All what you don't need is converted to fat stores. Since your body runs 24/7, you're constantly burning calories....even while you're sleeping. So if you reduce the amount of caloric intake, while raising your metabolism, then you'll lose weight quickly. The key to keeping it off is a lifestyle change. If you can successfully change your eating habits, and do some exercise, then you're on your way to a new you, and you'll be the envy of your friends. All this starts with you....with a true commitment. Best of luck to you......

Are you implying that water is the ONLY thing you are consuming? (no food or other beverage)? If so, then yes...it's the equivalent of starving yourself...your metabolism will slow down, and when it's all said and done, when you start to eat again (because you will have to or die) you'll gain weight more easily...

Now, if you are asking if you eat as usual, but cut out all beverages other than water, then yes...you will likely lose some weight, especially if you were prone to drinking beverages with a high calorie content...any reduction of calories will help you lose weight, just don't reduce them to an unhealthy point..

Good luck...

Noo unless it is replacing a fattening drink or if you were dehydrated before. It is better to eat water. It is mostly NOT your fault, if you need to lose weight. The way you have been taught to eat is responsible for making obesity the number one health problem in the world (according to Atlantic Monthly magazine) replacing hunger and infectious disease. You need to re-learn how to eat so you can become thin.

Find out about fastest way to lose weight, gradual ways to lose weight, most effective exercise and anti-water. Lose bodyfat and retained water which also makes you a lot fatter (bloated). Plus click on "Pure Water" to make sure the water you drink doesn't hurt you. Most important-- make sure to read the last "fat loss tip", first before anything else, to see the number one food that causes Americans to be fat.

water is the best diruretic, it will get rid of weight but if you try doing without food your body will think its being starved and go into protective mode. it will start storing fat. eat a lot of fruits and veggies. the body needs a gallon of water per day, especially if you are in one of the places getting the heat right now. dieting does not have to mean starvation. its a matter of choices. if you are given 100 calories to do whatever you wanted to you could have a half a candy bar, (not gonna stop there) 10 rice cakes (ewwww) 2 chips ahoy cookies (i dont have that much restraint) or you could choose 8 heads of lettuce, or 5 cups of fresh green beans, or 12 heads of cabbage. spices are free, flavor your food. that doesnt mean load it with butter, as tempting as that is. apple cider vinegar has a lot of flavor and no calories. it makes a great salad dressing. if you are careful what you eat you can eat all day. 1 celery stalk is appr 8 calories but it takes 150 calories to digest it. enjoy! you can lose 142 calories just by eating 1 stick of celery. that makes it a negative calorie food. i have a list of negative calorie foods and a diet for it if you want it. kristeena911@yahoo.com

Water keeps us cool, lubricates our joints and flushes toxins from our bodies, but admit it, how many of us really drink the recommended half gallon daily? For those of us who do struggle to drink enough, the great news is that water actually can help you in the battle against the bulge.

Now for the science bit
Your metabolism is the bio-mechanical process that breaks food down and turns it into energy. In a nutshell, it consumes calories. Since metabolism is your best ally in the frontline against weight, you want it to be working at full speed. Water is the fuel that drives metabolism's chemical reactions. So, if you're not drinking enough, you won't burn as many calories as you can. Simple.

Running on empty?
If you're not drinking enough water - at least half gallon a day - here's how your body is being affected:

Your weight loss will slow right down. This is because about half gallon of water is naturally lost through daily bodily functions. If you don't replenish this water you'll soon become dehydrated, and your metabolism will be among the first to shut down. So, if you're dieting and you can't seem to shift the weight, perhaps it's because you aren't drinking enough water.

Your digestion will suffer. Water is essential for digestion and elimination. Poor digestion means you won't be absorbing the goodness from your food. Your body in turn will send up signals (cravings) for food that has minerals your body lacks.

You'll feel 'fake' hunger. When dehydrated, your body sends out the same signals that prompt you to eat and you may end up answering that response with food. Water will not only curb those hunger pangs, but it will fill you up. Fitness trainer Bob Greene recommends drinking a tall glass of water half an hour before a meal to fill the void and prevent overeating.

You won't get the full benefit of exercise. Your metabolism increases with exercise, and as we mentioned earlier, water is essential to maximise your metabolism. Drink plenty of water before, during and after your workout.

Mine's a pint (or five)?
How much H2O should you drink? Half Gallon of fluids a day, which can include fruit juices and teas and coffee. This amount is recommended for maintaining your daily fluid requirements. If your aim is to lose weight, add another 1.5 pint to that and you'll aid your metabolism and help create new muscle weight.

You know you're drinking enough water if your urine is clear and odourless (not including your first urination of the morning).

But sorry, even though it's technically fluid, alcohol can't be included in your daily intake. That's because booze is dehydrating - so if you are going to have a tipple or two, drink one glass of water for every glass of alcohol.
Drinking loads of water will not make you retain water, but dehydration will. If your body feels worried that it's not getting enough water, it will hold on to what it has.

Water does make you pee and you will notice more trips to the bathroom, but you can lessen the effects by drinking throughout the day rather than chugging a couple of glasses in one go. If you drink more than one or two glasses in one sitting, your body will want to get rid of it and you won't reap the benefits.

Although some dieticians disagree on this, sparkling water, ice tea or coffee can count toward your daily fluid intake. But because they have a diuretic effect, try to limit the amount. Consider drinking herbal tea instead. If you are going to have an espresso, add an extra serving of water to your daily intake.

It's as easy as one, two, three…
Keep water by your workstation. Instead of munching on a biscuit or crisps, take a sip from your water bottle.

If the thought of consuming that much water makes you queasy, be strategic. Drink when you are most thirsty: when you wake up, when you have your meals, during your workouts. Carry a bottle of water with you and you'll be more likely to sip your way to your daily amount.

Make your water taste better by buying a water jug with a filter. You can also make your own flavoured water by cutting up a lemon, apple or cucumber and adding to the water. Or mix with a tiny splash of juice. Try making herbal iced tea by pouring boiling water over four tea bags, letting it steep for 10 minutes and diluting to taste with cold water.

And there's more
Although we diet for health reasons, it's often the fact that we'll look better that keeps us motivated. Drinking plenty of water will give you that dewy, fresh-faced look by plumping the cells in your skin so lines are less visible. Water flushes impurities away and reduces blemishes. And, according to the American Holistic Association, water has a very high concentration of negative ions, which can bring about a feeling of well-being.

Sitting by a lake or ocean can add to your sense of peace; a benefit for emotional eaters. Swimming is great exercise and the fact that you are immersed in water means you'll also get the emotional benefit of those negative ions. So what are you waiting for? Jump in now, and before you know it, your weight loss will be going swimmingly.
