Her adult canines grew in next to the baby ones. She has already been spayed and I don't want to put her under anesthesia again. Plus it will cost me about $300 to get two teeth pulled. Would it be bad if they stayed in? They don't seem to be bothering her. Please, no dumb or stupid answers.

This is actually very common in small breeds. As a vet tech, I know that it is a good idea to have them pulled. I know $300 is alot of money, but the teeth are actually causing more damage than you realize although they probably don't hurt her. What happens is, tarter gets trapped between the two teeth and, just like in humans, a cavity will form. It will be much less expensive and much better for your Chi to have it taken care of now. If you wait, she may have to have her adult canines pulled too. Ask your vet if you can do a payment plan. Or even post dated checks. I would seriously consider having it taken care of! Good Luck!

Unfortunately, you will have to spend the money to have the teeth removed. If not, the dog could develop periodontal disease, which could be fateful. I didn't have my last dog's baby teeth removed until too late because I didn't know about potential teeth problems and that some of the baby teeth could be impacted. The vet expenses for antibiotics, overnight stays, and having to remove those teeth was more expensive and more dangerous for her than simply having the teeth removed before a problem resulted. Dogs are expensive. I would highly recommend having the teeth removed as soon as possible.

A good friend of mine has the same problem with her poodle. She took him to the vet and asked him about it. He told her to get some chew bones to see if that would make them loosen and fall out. Problem is, his permanent canines are longer than the baby ones so it's not doing any good. He suggested she have them pulled. She hasn't done it yet because it is so expensive. However, the vet did not say that it would hurt the dog to leave them in. It just looks weird.

Check with your vet to see if she needs her teeth cleaned- at two years old, she probably does. Most vets will not put a pet under anesthesia just to pull baby teeth unless they are causing a problem. However, if she needs her teeth cleaned anyways because of plaque and tartar build up- she will have to go under in order to have them cleaned. They will pull the puppy teeth at that time. If your vet says she doesn't need her teeth cleaned but her back teeth- the molars- are brown and have tartar, go to another vet, she does need her teeth her cleaned.

Even if they don't seem to you that they are bothering her, they may very well be. If you can, save the $300 and have them pulled. She will be just fine when the anesthesia wears off. Besides, if you don't have it done, you will worry about it day in and day out. I know I would. Good luck.

They should come out.
At what age did your dog get spayed? The vets tell me here that they always check for puppy teeth when spaying or neutering and they pull them at the same time. Had this happen with a rescue.
