You cannot serve yourself at a bar but still tip the bartender. If the weather is inclimate one should expect to tip the attendant no matter what their policy on tipping would be, just as a courtesy.
Here is a link to tipping etiquette which covers most situations.

I live in NY state. I almost always pump my own gas. The only time i wont is if i go to the Indian reservation.Even then i usually do. To be honest with you though. I dont think it matters. Then again Im in NY. In the winter it might be different. Im sure they dont get paid more or less depending on the weather. You might want to find out if they work for tips.If so then yes i would. If not then no i wouldnt tip them. Dont ask the person pumping your gas though. Cuz they would prob tell you they work for tips. Ask managment. Thats just a New Yorker opinion>

We usually tip the guy if the weather is really lousy (very cold, very hot, raining, etc.) And if we get in the habit of going to the same station all the time, and one person pumps our gas most of the time, we give him something at Christmas, like $20.00. But where we live, there are both self-service and full service stations, so we always have the option of pumping our own. If we pick a full service station, we really appreciate the service (sometimes they even wash your windshield----remember that?)

Actually, no it is not.
If you cannot have the option of pumping the gas yourself, then the assumption is that it is a service that is customary and therefore doesn't warrant a tip.

in the country, in elementary terms 2 states via regulation dictate that each and every physique gas stations are finished service - Oregon and New Jersey. My granny lived her finished existence in New Jersey without ever touching a gas pump. She additionally on no account tipped the attendant. . the place I stay, maximum each and every gas station is a self-serve. in case you have the alternative at a station, you will notice that the fees are commonly diverse in line with gallon for finished serve as against self serve. guess which one you pay greater for? it is not required, nor even universal in maximum places.

If you do not have the option to pump you own gas, you do not have to tip. The service is built into the price.

What the heck? I wouldn't...its already $3 a gallon on good days. I'd tell the attendant to get the f*ck away from me so I could pump my own gas! lol

I would say yes. Here in Ohio, usually you pump your own, but places where you don't pump your own, you're expected to tip. Just because the whole state's like that wouldn't make it any different. Sucks for you, though.

in a place where it is the law that a gas attendant needs to pump gas for you, you are not expected to tip.
