how big?
Using a compression program such as winzip, or what I prefer WinRAR, you can SPLIT THE ARCHIVE into segments of a size you select.
This way, you can send multiple emails. The user on the other end getting the files must get them all, and then open the main (or first) file, allowing extraction from them to recreate the file. "Archive Spanning" is what this is called.
If the other person does not have WinRAR or WinZIP, be sure to make it a executable file, or "Self Extracting". This will make the file a .exe to extract no matter what o nthe users pc.

If the slideshow is in a program like PowerPoint, often I have found compressing the file does not do much - it compresses by 2% or some amount that is not very meaningful.
My best strategy in that case is just to break the file into smaller parts and send as several e-mails. Again, if this is in PowerPoint, that is very easy- as is re-assembling it on the other end. And then you don't have to deal with WinZip or some other program.

Moving a large file over the internet?
Use a Web site intended for transfers of large files.
There are several such sites, all easy to use.
http://www.yousendit.com/
http://www.dropload.com/
http://www.sendthisfile.com/
To scramble and then send large files to people, use Mail Big File.
www.mailbigfile.com
YouSendIt lets you upload files up to 1 gigabyte in size. Then you notify to the recipient to download only that specific file.
The files can be downloaded any time for the first week—after that they are deleted.
www.yousendit.com
Dropload is another site dedicated to e-mailing large files (up to 100 megabytes). Registration is free.
Type in the recipient's e-mail address. Dropload will be sent an e-mail together with a link for downloading the file. Again, the files can be downloaded any time for the first week—after that they are deleted.

The easiest thing to do would be to use win zip to create a multipart .zip file, you could then send multiple emails and your recipient can recombine all the parts into their original form.
