How many friggen times will I have to post this question?
Come on people. Look it up. The "Darwin recanted" story is a lie.
Lady Hope, a creationist, made up the lie after Darwin died. In fact, Darwin's daughter Henrietta said;

"I was present at his deathbed. Lady Hope was not present during his last illness, or any illness. I believe he never even saw her, but in any case she had no influence over him in any department of thought or belief. He never recanted any of his scientific views, either then or earlier. We think the story of his conversion was fabricated in the U.S.A. . . . The whole story has no foundation whatever."

And in fact, one of the last famous quotes from Darwin was the following;
"I would rather be regarded as a descendant of a monkey than of some people that might be named."

And most of us applaud him for his work, his vision and of course, his courage in the face of religious zealotry.

So please, stop spreading this lie ok creationists? Thanks.

In my back yard there's this piece of an old brick wall I'd really like out of the way. When you're done talking to the creationists about Darwin's deathbed evolutionism, would you mind popping over and talking to this pile of bricks? I was thinking maybe you could persuade it to move. Thanks.

You have to remember that creationist propaganda isn't about honest search for truth. It's about protecting a sacred (I almost mistyped and wrote "scared," which would have been an amusing Freudian slip) idea that isn't allowed to be challenged by anything. Creationists often don't care at all if they are out and out lying as long as their means get justified by their end.

They know they're losing ground. They know they're going to die off. I'm encouraged every time I talk to a sensible adult who outgrew childish creationist leanings. That happens quite a bit, you know.

Hear Hear Sir! But trying to explain this to the religious right is pointless. The quest for scientific reason shall one day win out I believe.

You don't have to explain it to people who aren't brainwashed by religion. The sad fact is that you can't reason with people whose minds are already made up, despite mountains of scientific evidence. I'm constantly shocked at how many people here really don't understand (or don't want to understand) science.

People don't use 10% of their brains.

Funding Osama Bin Laden in 1978 was about fighting Communism, not about oil.

Jaleel White (Urkel) is still alive.

But good luck convincing some people of it... it's just the way it goes.

Darwin most certainly did recant everything he said while he felt his body burning in the bed, just before he died!

I don't see how it matters. Darwin didn't decide how the universe was created. He was right or he wasn't.

Of course, I think Darwin got it all backwards. We didn't evolve from monkeys. That's what we're evolving to. :-)

I don't think these people want to hear facts it's not part of their agenda. I suspect you'll have to past this sometime sooner or latter.
