every time anybody tries to play with him he ends up biting your hand so hard that you don't even want to mess with him anymore. I know it's just a phase he's going through because he's still so young. when he does it I firmly tell him no. he stops for a second but then tries to bite again. I know he doesn't know he's biting that hard but it's so bad he almost punctures the skin. his teeth are worse than his claws. Please Help! Thanks!

I think he might just be going through a stage. I'd try a LOUD "NO!" then set him down and do not play with him for a while. Then just be consistant with that.

Also maybe getting some toys for him to bite on/play with instead of biting you? Just a thought.

Good luck with the little rascal!

It's not a phase. He has learned that there is no consequence for his biting, so why not? What I do for with my kittens is thump them on the nose when they try that, I usuallly tell them no first, so they get a warning, and then firmly, but not too hard, thump their little nose. They will look at you like 'what did you do that for?' totally clueless to the pain you are suffering at their behalf. It won't take him long to learn. Now if they start ( and they usually hesitate and think about it first ), all I have to say (in a firm, no nonsense manner) is NO. That tells them that if they keep on with their current train of thought, and put their mouth on me to bite, they will get thumped. Never allow anyone to use their hands, fingers or toes as "toys" for the kitten to chase and play with. That is what usually starts this behavior. Get him toys that he can bite and attack to his hearts delight.

There are some cat toys made by Hartz just for teething kittens. See if you can find something like that.

You should NOT allow the kitten to bite people at all. Anytime he tries to bite you, curl up your hand so it is hard for him to get a grip and give him a toy as an alternative to your hand.

You have to use a toy rather than your hands to play with it. I know they are soft and it is fun when they don't bite hard. But they teethe and they are practicing to be grown up cats. So they eventually bite too hard. Saying no barely makes a dent in cat behavior. They can be trained to use a box in a matter of minutes, because it's instinct. But everything else is gonna be a miracle. Cats do what ever they want.

Like Renee said, don't use your hands when you play with a kitten. You can pet them of course! But don't use them for anything else.

I did this with my girls, and neither of them are biters.

Of course, you may be past this point. So if you do use your hands to play with them, stop. And I like the suggestion of blowing on it when it bites, or maybe a squirt of water.....It'll need to be retrained.

my cat is nearly ten and still shouldnt be messed with. he's part Siamese which makes him a bit feistier.
i tried to discipline him when he was a kitten, but he just sprang up and attacked harder. so i'd try again and back he would come.
basically, my cat can kick anyone's ****. hehehe
but seriously, some cats, like some people, are just more spirited than others.

put your finger in his mouth all the way. If you get it in far enough he can't get leverage to bite you hard. Also, it's ok to knock him around a bit and scare him. Just give him lots of love when he's good so he knows you still love him.

you need to discourage his playing with people this way...whenever starts to bite, blow on his face...this will simulate his mother's hissing to stop bad behavior....i only let my kitties play with toys, not people...and i had 4 boys kittens so it was a challenge but it doesn't take long for them to learn the lesson...then all you have to do is train the people not to encourage him to play like that....
