I'm 24 and married to the man of my dreams. We've been married for a year and a half and recently found out that we would be having twins! I really had mixed feelings about this, i'm so excited to be a mom for the first time, and it couldn't make me happier to do it twice. but i've heard some horrible stories about twins, behavoir issues and things. anyone have any advice. How do i nurture their independence but keep them together at the same time?

I'll try to keep it short. The first few months, you will get no sleep. The first few years, you will get more sleep but less time for yourself. The pre teen years it gets better as the twins are more independent, however because they are close in age and proximity, fights are unavoidable. My twins are now 15 (girls) and they are very close, although they still fight sometimes. Nurture them, give them individual space when needed and they should be well adjusted and happy. Most of all, get some help and get some rest!

First of all, congratulations!!! Only dress them alike (if you feel you have to) before they start school. Once they are in school dont tell people about the "twins", say there individual name. If possible, let each have there own room and let them decorate to there style. Its true that they will fight but there just little things that last a day at the most. Girls will argue the most but will be closest. Boys fight the most and arnt close but at the same time they are. For faternal twins, they will not be very close unfortuantly. They wont argue very much either. Dont tolerate bad behavior and once again congrats! Hope i helped.

First of all Congradulations. I know how you feel, really i do. I have twins who just in may 2006 turn TWO. A boy and a girl.
Just be positive and everything will fall into place. My kids are competitive one moment then the other they are hugging. You'll have lots of fun.

find a group like Mothers of Twins(or Multiples) in your area and ask for books to read and a mentor mom

I was 19 when I had my twins and had the exact same reaction. They are five now, and you just learn from eachother. Each kid will have their own personality and you'll just know. Just take the help when family or friends offers it because it is exhausting. and enjoy your babies, because they wont be babies very long.

When you have twins the only difference is that you are twice the Mom you would have been otherwise.
