"Yeah" tends to either be more enthusiastic, or it can be passive.
"Yes" is just a straight answer to a question, with no emotions envolved.

The meaning is the same however the tone is different. Yes is a polite way of answering in a positive manner while Yeah is slang, sometimes rude (depending on the tone in your voice) and yet unsophisicated.
Yeah can also be an excitement form of the word yes used when people have won something or have been waiting along time for the right answer to come their way.
Eitther way, it's the same. Just remember the tone when used.

Yeah is informal and colloquial. Yes is proper. In my house, growing up, we would be reprimanded if we answered our parents by saying, "yeah." We also could never ask, "What?" That was considered very rude. We had to say, "I'm sorry?" or "Excuse me?" or "Ma'am?" or "Sir?" I'm glad I was raised that way. I will raise my own child that way.

Meanwhile, we would say, "yeah" to our friends, but not any other adult.

Yes is a more definite answer. yeah suggests you are still thinking about it. Or just a lazy way of speaking.

Informal and formal; yeah is something spoken to your friends and or family members such as siblings. Yes is spoken to your boss; your parents, or an officer who just pulled you over.
